Hollow Body Frogs?

I am going to make the best hollow body frog ever someday. For now, I would like to start making prototypes and trying some stuff in terms of materials and hook/leg configuration.

I have never poured plastics or made any lure for that matter but I am artistic and sculpt, draw and paint pretty well. I also fish a LOT and have been using/studying frogs almost exclusively for the last month.

I am thinking i would need to make a sculpture. Then make a mold of it. Then pour plastic/rubber/vinyl in it and roll it around so it coats the outside but leaves the inside hollow.

Can anyone tell me what I would need to get started?

What do you make your initial prototype sculpture out of?

What do you use to cast a mold from it?

What are hollow body frogs made from? Its not plastic like a power worm of senko is made of but more like a rubber, like a raincoat.

I can honestly say I have never seen someone make a hollow body frog.

As a matter of fact I don't know why it has to be hollow. Good luck with it and keep us posted

They are hollow so they float and so they compress when bit to expose the hooks. They are also more durable than worm type plastics which helps because they get beat up after being thrown in cover and nailed by bass.

I found a site for making vinyl toys and have got an idea how to go about it. First I have to make a sculpture from modeling clay or something similar.

I know you said that your never poured plastic before so I thought I would just mention that you can buy a certain type of worm plastic that is very tough and floats. I've been meaning to pour some frogs with that to see how it works.

BTW I know why the frogs are hollow but like I said it seems to me there would be a way to get a frog to float without it being hollow.

Very interested to see the outcome. Sounds like a great project, theyre one of my favorite lures to fish.
