midnighthrasher Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I have used baby brush hogs with succes and was wondering if anyone has used the new rage hawgs??? If so how do they compare??? Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted January 18, 2010 Super User Posted January 18, 2010 Brush hogs are a tried and true bait and I love them but the rage hogs put them to shame. Now If they would come out with a baby rage hog...Hint Hint Quote

D4u2s0t Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I haven't tried these particular baits yet, but so far EVERYTHING i've tried from rage tail has been nothing short of spectacular. With the recently lowered prices, it's a no brainer. Not sure if they're still on sale, but I just picked up a bunch of rage stuff from tw for 3.xx a pack, which is just a rediculous price for what you're getting. Give them a shot, i'm sure you'll love them. Quote

pennyankees Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 they both produce. im my opinion though ALL the rage products product more strikes. But the brush hogs are a great bait too. Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted January 18, 2010 Super User Posted January 18, 2010 I have always used Baby Brush Hogs, but I will have to give the Rage Hawgs a try. Quote
Big-O Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 The Rage Hawg is 6 inches total length when fishing although in the hardshell clams (packaged) with all tear tabs attached, they're only 5". Design differences to others on the market are the RT flanges as well as tails sweep in opposite direction which take advantage of water flow and the front arms have full swimming action as well. Another design feature when jigged straight up and down is the side flappers expanding quickly and spring board the bait to flip it over and fall nose first. This action detail is provided on this video footage below. http://www.ragetail.com/bhvid_hsflash.html Hope you like'em Big O www.ragetail.com Quote

(I'm not being sarcastic, I would just like to know why you prefer it. ) It puts off a lot more "thump" and the arms and tails go crazy. I fish a lot of dirty water and this bait has been great! Swam weightless across the top one can see how much action this thing has.It looks insane. I also forgot to mention though that I really don't know which one I like better. The netbait mad paca is a killer bait as well and comes in the smaller size too. They both have replaced brush hogs for me. Quote
-nick- Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I've used regular brush hogs but they didn't produce well at all. Used they baby brush hogs and those things just catch fish. Never used the rage tail hawgs because I was just turned off by only having the large ones. I guess I'll have to try a pack now though just to compare to the regular brush hog. Quote
Elite Image Fishing Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I fish Netbait almost exclusively due to a partnership through the University here. Now I have always been a fan on Strike King products and I must say that compared to the brush hog or mad paca by netbait the rage hawgs and well the whole line of rage plastics have really produced for me. The way they displace water really helps in grass and darker water, but in the clearer water I go with the mad paca (brush hog). I could also make a mad paca vs. brush hog, but that is simply due to the difference in parts on the lures. But overall the rage line are my favorite plastics for flipping,darker/nasty water conditions, and so forth. Just my .02 cents. Quote
LVT Bassin Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I'm another Netbait Mad Paca craw user. I formerly used the Zoom Brush Hogs for 3 years but switched over to the Netbaits last summer mainly because of the bigger paddle arms/craws which means more action. Also the factory ready garlicy scents in the Netbaits is another plus compared to the Zoom rubbery/plastic smell. I even have about 15-25 packs of the Zoom Baby Brush hogs that I've just put away and don't want to use. Quote
Super User CWB Posted January 19, 2010 Super User Posted January 19, 2010 Brush Hawgs USED to be one of my favorite baits. Now The Rage Hawgs and the The Mad Pacas have replaced them. The beauty of any bait in the Rage line is that all the appendages come alive with the slightest movement. I never could figure out what those little loops on the Brush Hawg were supposed to do. Hey Big-O- A slightly smaller version of the Rage Hawg would be KILLER! Quote
A-Rob Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I use the Strike King Game Hawg....b/c I'm cheap haha. Anyone have opinions on that one? I haven't used it yet, they're ready to rock for this coming season. Comparable to the Rage Tails?? Quote

The only complaint I could have about Rage Tail baits is they are too big for the waters I fish. We just don't have large numbers of big bass in this area. Quote

Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted January 19, 2010 Super User Posted January 19, 2010 > >CWB rage hawgs have loops too, do they do anything? i dont like this thread. brush hog till i die!!! The rage bait doesn't have little loops. It has little arms on the sides that swim .They are attached with removeable tabs to keep them in place until you put the bait in use. Quote
brushhoggin Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 ahh i see that now. cool. but if i put a rage hawg in front of a bass, the chances of her hittin it are just as good as her hittin a brush hog. now doesnt the rage products have more scent and flovor to them? they may hang on a little longer to the rage hawg Quote
Big-O Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Rage Hawgs are salt and coffee impregnated. Many of todays creature baits, typical to the Rage Hawg, can be altered or pinched down to change and/or reduce the overall profile. I have utilized this technique many times and with many different baits. Here are some ideas to ponder for pofile changes on the Rage Hawg....Each is a different look or presentation. 1) When the head of the bait is worn out - pinch approx. 1 inch off the top which removes the side arms as well. This leaves 1 and 1/2" area for a 3/0 or smaller hook. 2) Remove the side arms and the side flappers to make a 6" or shorter twin tail worm. 3) Pinch entire body off just above the side flappers for a bulky jig trailer 4) Utilizing #3, also pinch side flappers off leaving just enough material for securing the twin tails to the back of a jig. Threaded on the hook is my preference with this presentation as the tails add nice length as is. Since a baits overall profile size and action is so important to the fish, it's up to us to figure out what they want. Some Creature Baits are like a "Fishermans Smorgasbord". I hope a few of you have an opportunity to ck out these changes. After all, doing something different isn't only fun, on heavily fished water it's often the key to success. Super User eyedabassman Posted January 20, 2010 Super User Posted January 20, 2010 I will say this about that EEliminator, it looks like it would be a big hit around pads and the thick stuff. Like a green Eelimintor on the edge>WOW Quote
midnighthrasher Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 Maybe im wrong but why is everyone saying that the rage hawg is too big???? Its the same size as the baby brush hog... They are both 5 inches. Quote

I could've sworn someone said earlier that it was the size of the regular brush hog or something. That's why I said what I did I can't remember how big they were in person but I really thought they were bigger than the baby brush hog. Quote
Big-O Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Maybe im wrong but why is everyone saying that the rage hawg is too big???? Its the same size as the baby brush hog... They are both 5 inches. Actually the RH is 6" with tear tabs released and fished. The profile is larger than the BBH and more comparable to the standard BH Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
