Super User roadwarrior Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 Tackle & Gear: NorthStar Swim Jig/ Rage Tail Single Tail Grub St. Croix LES70MF/ Stella 2500FE/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 Started out this morning before dawn at Collierville. One small fish. Arrived at Grove around 7:00. Walked into the rocks at the entrance to the pond. First cast was along the right bank, no takers. Second cast was straight out as far as I could throw. The bass hit the lure 10'-15' from shore. The fish did not run, but came straight up and out of the water. She then ran to my left and I turned her back as she rolled, ran again and then up and out. A jogger and a couple walking their dog stopped to watch. I had to play the fish a little, my equipment was a little light to horse this Walmart Girl! I landed the fish, showed it off and released her quickly. The neighbors couldn't believe it, they apparently don't fish and never heard of catch & release. The bass was about the size of the one I caught at Guntersville (7-6), but a little fatter. This was not one of the Big Girls we have been catching this year, but she was great today! BTW, I hope all my local friends have some luck on the pond as long as we recycle what we catch. Although this is a public pond and it would be legal to keep and mount a big bass, you would have to be brain dead to do this at a pond you frequent often. This particular fish has the potential of becoming a double digit, the chances of that happening to a fish you keep are ZERO. Good luck! 1 Quote

Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 Sounds like a nice picture wish u had a pic of it. You gotta get her again so you can take a pic with her Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 5, 2012 Global Moderator Posted July 5, 2012 Yep, they won't reach full potential if you don't PUT THEM BACK! Quote
Super User tomustang Posted July 5, 2012 Super User Posted July 5, 2012 Them grubs are made out of magic, great story! Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 5, 2012 Super User Posted July 5, 2012 Nice catch and good story. But what I find more of an acomplishment is that you caught her with a jig on #6 mono. Most people wouldn't even consider using anything less than #12 with a jig, unles you were throwing a 1/8oz jig. Kudos to you! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 5, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 5, 2012 I don't generally use light line, but I just received the rod as a replacement for one that I broke.(St. Croix has GREAT customer service!). The only way you can get away with fishing a jig on light line is "swimming" in open water. Touching the bottom or running through timber are no-no's! My standard rig for small swimbaits and swimming jigs is a MBR 842C/ Core 50/ Hybrid #12. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 5, 2012 Super User Posted July 5, 2012 We think alike, almost. I leave in 45 minutes for my night tournament. Right now I'm spooling my NRX 854JWR and Lews TP with #12 Hybrid. It will be used with a 3/8oz black/blue jig and Rage trailer. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 5, 2012 Author Super User Posted August 5, 2012 Hooked up with another BR member this morning. I only had one bite, but it was early...5-6 lbs. An hour and a half later, I'm talking with my new friend about BR and go to the car to get a card, but I'm done fishing. We chat for a few minutes and then a casual cast gets NAILED! Man, my new friend's fish looks to be ~8lbs. Pretty cool way to finish a morning trip. Quote
IMPACT01 Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 What gave it away she frequented wallmart? Was she wearing a shower cap! Ha ha Sounds like a couple good trips.... Quote

tennsopher Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Nice catch RW,I too believe in total catch and release. The fish I have posted on here are all still swimming where they wre caught at.One gripe I have with tournament fishing is the way the fish are treated. They are jockeyed around for hours in a livewell and then released miles from where they were caught.Delayed mortality is then a problem.I am in favor of the format of the show on WFN (I forget the name)where each boat has a rules enforcer and results of fish caught are instantly relayed by gps.We are stewards of the environment and I have great respect for my quarry.I have even turned loose my pb which at 13+ was hard to do I didn't even get a pic of it .I wanted it to live.God bless you and good fishing!
