Super User Sam Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 Ben Davidson, for you young guys who never heard of him, was one of the famous Oakland Raiders players back in the 60s. He was on the team that won the second super bowl for Oakland in 1968 while the Raiders were in the old AFL. He played his college ball at Washington. He was a B-I-G guy at 6 feet 8 inchches tall and had a B-I-G handlebar mustash. He set the bar for defensive ends in the NFL. I am sure Raider Nation will be in morning today for the loss of Big Ben. Super User Lund Explorer Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 Sure enough Sam. Not only did he have a great career on the field, but he probably delivered the greatest line in all of the old Miller Lite commercials! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pStfv9cjJt0 1 Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 Never met him of course, but have heard about him in several books. When I was a kid, my dad used to say that thunder was football greats playing ball! Quote
GLADES Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 A great player. That commercial really brings it back...lol Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 5, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 5, 2012 Seems the colleges are still using Ben's profile as a measuring stick to recruit defensive ends. If you look at the heights and weights of the leading college football programs you will note the sizes of their defensive ends and the ones they are recruiting. Quote
