David Rangel Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 If i need to decide to choose only one rapala for fish in brackish water or bass I 'll do with a silver count down 11 or shad, shad rap 9. David Quote
The one that got away Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Jointed floating Rapalas are #1 with me. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted January 10, 2010 Super User Posted January 10, 2010 Jointed shad raps in shad color or parrot.-Use it like a jerkbait and crankbait mixed The dt "flat" series.- Crash this over submerged humps and watch what happens X-rap #10 in gold, silver, white ghost Quote
done Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Around here, Shad-rap or x-rap shad color (silver/black). Optimal depth most time of the year for these is 7'-10'. There are some coves here will these will pick up fish year round guaranteed. I also keep a shallow runner 3'-5' around for shallower coves in the late fall early winter. I have come behind a guy working a hole for 45 min without a bite and caught one in < 5 minutes. Course Wylie has a HUGE shad population, so it is what the fish are looking for. Quote
kikstand454 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 so... to summerize- dt's, xraps, original floaters, husky jerks, skitter walks, skitter pops, skitter props and shad raps... all sizes... most colors.... cant go wrong with a rapala... get em all! lol. (p.s.- yes i use the sub walks occasionally, though mostly for redfish. theyre great for shallow water subtlety.) Quote
midnighthrasher Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Thanks everyone for your answers. I made my choices and baught about 50 items from rapala, vmc, and storm. I will post pictures when i get everything. Quote
BrianSnat Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I've had great luck with the Skitterpop in the evening/night. Other than that the basic, floating Rapala in about 3 1/2 inches has been a standby and I use it about half the time I'm fishing. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 I've never met a Shad Rap I didn't like. Sizes #5 & #7. I've been catching ALOT of fish with them for the last twenty-five years. Then X-Raps, DT Series, and Skitter Pops. Falcon Quote
Choke Canyon Boy Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I like the dt series 6,10,4 in baby bass and shad. I also like the rattlin rapala lipless bait in silver/blue as it has a really tight wobble and is very affordable. Quote
Billme Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Went to the fishing expo in Raleigh this weekend and attended one of the seminars with David Fritts. He talked about how he uses a crankbait and said his favorite was the DT6. Even stated his favorite color was a cream body with a dark top. There was a vendor selling all Rapalas for $5 each but they didn't have the color combo that DF mentioned. I got some anyway, couldn't resist. Quote
OK Bass Hunter Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 DT-6 Baby Bass and Bluegill color Quote
hookset on 3 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Take an original floating #11 and wRAP some soldering wire around the treble hook shank. this makes it suspend in about 3 ft. Killer! Quote
