A-Rob Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I don't add scent to much anymore but if the plastic has some built in scent I won't complain! Quote
trupp30 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I like to use Smelly Jelly in both Crawfish or Shad, depending on the soft plastic I am using. I am like many others who have responed in saying; I don't think it will attarct more fish, but when they bite I believe they do tend to hold on longer. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 Why blue gill and not bass? Both are sunfish. John... I accept the sensory similarities between a bluegill and bass, however, I've taken many, many more bluegill under a bobber allowing the gill to sample my bait than chasing down a swimming offering. On the other hand I've brought more smallmouth and largemouth to hand offering a bait with more movement than would allow for much "tasting" before a whole hearted commitment to consume. Put differently... I believe a bass reacts to profile and motion (visual cues) more strongly than taste. oe Quote
rubba bubba Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I wish in Gene's video he threw the bait with no JJ's first. I would imagine he still would have gotten bit just as well. Watch the 2nd video - he did exactly that with a 10" worm. Quote

I wonder too, if the feeding behavior is centered around mouth size. Smallmouth will nip and peck, too. And letting them "play" with the bait a little longer often is the difference in getting hooked up. This is primarily for deep drops in 20+ FOW. Even deep caught largemouth seem to just suck the bait in. Quote

JJ's on a frog or toad? Maybe to add color to a toad, but for frogs, I prefer to lube them up with Megastrike. I think it helps the hollow frog body rotate on the hook easier for a better hookup, and the fish definitely hold it longer. Quote
KingMidas Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I use Bang in the garlic scent. I use it by spraying a bit into the bag with the soft plastics and then on individual baits once I have it rigged up. I don't buy the idea that it actually attracts fish. I use it to mask the fact that I touched the bait and I also believe that fish hold on longer because of the scent. I had a ten inch LMB completely swallow an 8 inch power worm my first day using Bang and since then im not really confident without it. I use the aerosol version of the scent... The regular spritzer bottle leaks if it tips over which leads to a smelly car/anything it touches Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted July 7, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 7, 2012 yeah i need something to lube up my frog ive notice my hook up ratio isnt that great on the frogs. Quote
