Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 Does anybody know some good fishing scents to put on soft plastics or baits? Ive been thinking about trying it i just havent gotten around to it. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 I am a big fan of Mega Strike. Does it work? I think so. Not so much to attract bites, but to mask any offensive odors that might repell bites, and to get fish that do bite to hold the bait longer......that really helps on those days when they are biting lite, and you don't feel the text book "thump" or your line dosen't move off in another direction. I can't tell you how many times in just the last 2-3 weeks I have not "felt" anything. Just take the slack out of my line and it feels "heavy", I am fully convinced those fish might not have made it to the boat had I not been using Mega Strike. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 Thats a question that could be debated for weeks. I use it on everything. Cant tell it if work or not, but does make me feel better that I can mask my scent though Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 If the soft plastic has a built in scent like Berkley Power or Gulp don't add to it. If the soft plastic doesn't have scent added, then add a scent known to work; Bang, Hot Sauce or Mega Strike, pure anise oil or garlic are all good. Tom Quote

Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted July 3, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 3, 2012 ww2farmer ill pick up some mega strike and tell you how i do.. thanks! Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 realy garlic?? im all for homemade recipes what do i doo?? Trader Joes sells frozen freeze garlic in the frozen veggie section in little squares 1 sqaure is perfect for a bag of worms. Tom Quote
Jig Meister Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I never used to use it until this year. Now it seems to work well. I will have days where I wont get a hit, forgot that I have it, spray it on my jig's and bam, get a few fish. So IDK, if you usually have strong odors on your hands or person, like tobacco, coffee, cologne etc. I would use it. I have been using BANG Garlic, and will use the Crawdad next. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 They both mask any negative sues you might leave on the bait, and I think they get the bass to hold the bait longer. They are just one more small edge you can get on the fish. Quote
Super User deep Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 Pro-cure gel. It lasts for a long time. For masking my own scent, I have some cheap stuff from Walmart. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted July 3, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 3, 2012 thanks for all of this suggestions ive seen it on the rack but never pick it up im deff going to try some homemade recipes and ill get a bottle of im going t pick up at bottle today and see how i do Quote
.Paxamus. Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I always use scents. Anything to help, over the years I have tried all kinds, used to only use BANG, then went to powerbait stuff, tried JJs with good results but too messy for me. Plus almost got kicked out of my own house for using it in the basement. No I use Megastrike, smells good to me, fish seem to hold on longer as well Quote
unionman Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Brand or scent DOES NOT MATTER. As long as you remove unatural scents your good. I get the cheapest garlic scent I can find. Works like a charm. I use it on any type of lure/bait you can think of. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 Just picked up some YUM Garlic/Ail scent from Dicks today. This stuff smells just like what is on the Gambler baits. If the bass eat up the Gambler baits, then I hope they do the same to my other baits. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 I believe scented baits will improve catch rates for bluegill, walleye, catfish and trout, but my bass fishing hasn't increased catch rates with scented baits. oe Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 Why blue gill and not bass? Both are sunfish. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 Be carefully not to mix different scents or add scent too far ahead of time; use as needed on soft plastics. Natural fresh frozen garlic clove is about the size of a sugar cube and 1 cube in a zip lock bag works great. Off the self scents; a small amount applied to the worm front end is all you should need. Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted July 4, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 4, 2012 im going to get a garlic scent and and maybe some jj but some one said it was to messy?? Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted July 4, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 4, 2012 im going to get some garlic bc that seems to be the scent of choice for a few ppl and ill also get some mega strike or somehting along those lines Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 JJ's magic is my favorite. When I run out, I can tell the difference. Megastrike is awesome on swimbaits and frogs because it's also a lubricant Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 Met Tom D's wife. She carries a plastic bag with ground coffee in it. Uses it whenever she gets into a bunch of crappies. I believe she said she dips her jigs in there before casting...fish on almost every cast while they are in the area. I see professionals spraying a scent on there lures before casting. I don't know if they are using it as an attractant, to mask their scent, or both. It is something I would like to try. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 1. MegaStrike 2. JJs Magic 3. Carolina Lunker Sauce 4. Jack's Juice 5. Gulp! 6. Anything you want!!! The best scent consists of blending live Nightcrawlers into a paste and soaking your plastics in the goop. You can now purchase blended Nightcrawlers or worms ready to go. You also need to purchase Dr. Keith Jones' book, Knowing Bass - The Secrets to Catching More Fish. It is expensive but it is the guide on the bass' senses and what to do to catch more of them. Remember, NOTHING LEAVES THE BOAT WITHOUT SCENT!!!! Good luck. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 4, 2012 Super User Posted July 4, 2012 im going to get some garlic bc that seems to be the scent of choice for a few ppl and ill also get some mega strike or somehting along those lines X2. JJs is rich in garlic scent. I use garlic most of the time. Can it hurt? Nope. Can it improve the time the bass hold the bait in their mouths? Yep. Quote
Deadeye-1 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I use two products. One is called Kicking Bass, has a strong Galic smell and is made from/with natural fish oils. WARNING: Stuff sticks to everything and you will smell it for days if you get it on your clothes and such. I pour a small ammount into each bag of plastics as soon as I open them and allow it to absorb deeply into the plastic. It is availble as BPS. Second is from Berkley and simply called Bass Attractant. You can find it at BPS and Wal Mart. I squeeze a little onto the worm every so often. First time I used it I caught 12 bass. Used it while fishing with a friend, who was using the exact same bait as I was, and I had 7 in the boat before he even had a hit. I am convinced that both of these products have improved my catch ratio. Quote
