Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted July 2, 2012 Super User Posted July 2, 2012 Ive been fishing spinner baits for a few weeks now and i keep reading people saying that spinner baits are pretty weedless. I mixed up my retrives i roll all kind of things but still only have cuaght one fish. any tips? Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 2, 2012 Super User Posted July 2, 2012 try mixing up the colors maybe? iv found in my experience for me at least color is all the difference. I can be throwing a white spinner double willow not get a bite switch to like a green or yellow same size and blde everything identical but the color and bam nothing but fish. I also aim for things under water to bum into alot of my strikes come after I bounce off a log or lilly pad the strike is right after the spinner hits some thing to change how it swims. If I swim it in open water all I catch is northern pike lol skim it by weed edges to I usually just do steady retrieves and let the cover speed or slow it down when I hit some thing. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted July 3, 2012 Author Super User Posted July 3, 2012 Yeah i have white strike king with a red bleeding hook. I have midnight spinder black and red with a colorado blade and light blue spinner.. what other colors do you suggest?> Quote
Scorcher214 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Honestly, my favorite spinnerbait and the one I use 70-80 percent of the time is a white with red spinnerbait, double silver willows. Ill switch blade size depending on how I want to fish it. Spinnerbaits work pretty good in weeds. As soon as you feel something give it a good pop, either you will have broken through some weeds, or set the hook on a fish. Never just reel in a spinnerbait. I always try to give it some erratic action. Add sudden pauses, vary speeds, or give it a bunch of jerks as I retrieve it. I also recommend a trailer hook, I catch enough bass on the trailer hook alone to warrant it. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 my top colors are white with silver/nickle blades, white with gold blades, red craw pattern from dicks its the only place I found it, and green fire tiger patterns. I have black and every other color out there but they never get used or they do and dont produce and I just jump right to white and start hammering fish Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted July 3, 2012 Super User Posted July 3, 2012 Around here the spinnerbait is best in low light so I fish it early in the morning and late in the evening or at night. I can't buy a fish when the sun is high on a spinnerbait. Quote

Im the opposite I throw mine the most mid day when its the brightest out with the best luck. probably why white w/ nickle willow blades is my best producer 1 Quote
Jig Meister Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 When I was a younger bass fisherman I used to clean house on all type of spinner baits, classic skirted types, rooster tails and I used to use a lot of spinner minnows type crank baits that I don't remember where I got them. Now I find it harder to use them, I stick to the colors that I normally produce with, white's and chartreuse but more often than not I will catch less on those than anything else, I do find now that I catch most fish on spinners when I retrieve then helicopter it down. Also toss that wretched into cover, hit it off of trees and toss it in front of hydrilla beds. Its a reaction strike lure, so you need to shove it in their face. Also, best when use with cloud cover and slight rippled water, if the sky is blue, and the water is like glass, use something else. Quote
NoBassPro Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 If you are trying to get it down and grind it through weeds, a single willow is your best bet. The tandems foul up too much imo, but can come through just about anything else. Quote
