bigtimfish Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I heard that purple was one of the best and last colors that a bass can see. My question is what water color is purple the best for? Gin clear, stained, muddy? Is it good for shallow clear as in 6' or less? Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 Junebug, PB&J, Camo, Tequila Sunrise are some that pop in mind; all 4 are good selections for any water clarity. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 Black Grape was the all around color, once upon a time. Dark enough for dark conditions, translucent enough for brighter conditions. It still would be, if it was commonly offered. Quote
simplejoe Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I like Tequila Sunrise, It works well in stained water. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 Junebug, PB&J, Camo, Tequila Sunrise are some that pop in mind; all 4 are good selections for any water clarity. x2. Add to that day OR night. Quote
Blue Streak Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Many years ago it was either purple or black. Both of those are still among the best all around colors you can use, I have caught tons of bass on purple soft baits. Quote
J. M. Richardson Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 My first bass was caught on a 4in purple berkley curl tail power worm. Still have some and throw them when the bite seems to be slow and they always seem to at least catch a few dinks Quote
whoopbazz Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 This is what I was told...Grape\Purple are one of the easiest sen colors by bass (along with chartruse). That being said...I still throw june bug on a sunny day. As far as a staight purple I do not have any in my box. On a cloudy day I through a midnight blue worm...which is a black with a blue tinge to it. June bug or staight purple/grape is a good true stand by color. Quote
Primus Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Junebug is one of my favorite colors for stained water, overcast conditions no matter the water clarity and heavy grass cover. Another terrific color is Smoke Purple which can be a great choice at times in clear water. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 I've got tons of purple and purple variations in my box. One of my best colors this year has been Junebug Red. Just normal junebug color with some red flake stuck in it as well. Works great for me. Quote
Sherlock 60 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Junebug (purple w/emerald flake) Senkos have been one of my standard colors for years. The lakes I fish are clear and I use them in all conditions. The last few years I have used watermelon with red flake more than the Junebug. Quote
angler1 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I think you would be ok to use purple in any condition. I would think that slightly stained would work better. I use a black worm all day and all night, shallow and deep, sunny or cloudy. Not to say that is the only color I use, but I catch fish with. Quote
cwb60 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I have had success with blueberry brush hogs. That is a dark blue(almost black) with lighter flakes. I think that is very close to the same color you guys are talking about. I had good luck with them on drop shots, texas rigs, and bite the head off and use whats left as a trailer on a jig. cwb60 Quote
sal669 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Junebug, PB&J, Camo, Tequila Sunrise are some that pop in mind; all 4 are good selections for any water clarity. Any style, any size, any time, anywhere.... Quote
Pitchinkid Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I think size and presentation play bigger roles than color. But i still buy every color available. Yes, i have caught alot of fish on purple and all shades of it in all colors of water. Quote
brushhoggin Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 yes purple or junebug is the new watermelon like someone said here on this site a little while back. any time, place, style, or presentation. peanut butter and jelly is another variation on purple i've had great success with Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 This thread made me think...I need to get some junebug colored flukes... Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 A Zoom Ole Monster in Tequila Sunrise or Junebug/Red is one of my favorite confidence baits. Quote
A-Rob Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I have had lots of luck with Junebug in deeper water, even if the lake is clear, as it is darker. I've also picked up some nice ones in shallow water that is clear. Junebug Yum Craw Papi I think I was using. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 18, 2010 Super User Posted January 18, 2010 A lot of ole timers refer to them as a single word. Like, "did you catch them on a purpleworm?" Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 18, 2010 Super User Posted January 18, 2010 The color spectrum is as follows: Red - Orange - Yellow - Green - Blue - Indigo - Violet The color "red" is first to disappear, while the purple family is last to disappear. However, the last color to disappear and the best color to use are two separate entities. Roger Quote
kikstand454 Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 ive probably caught more fish on junebug trick worms and paddle tails than all other colors combined. black is catching up though. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 from march until mid june, 4" GYCB Junebug Senkos catch 99% of my fish.... after that it is Watermelon Red, Green Pumkin, and Black that catch all my fish... i dont have much success with purple later in the season Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 18, 2010 Super User Posted January 18, 2010 Y'all kinda getting the idea why my favorite color is Cinnamon Pepper Neon/June Bug Laminated (Camouflage). Cinnamon: reddish in color Pepper: black flake Neon: red flake June Bug: purple with green flake Laminated: dark on top & light on the bottom Visible in any water clarity Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 18, 2010 Super User Posted January 18, 2010 Junebug, PB&J, Camo, Tequila Sunrise are some that pop in mind; all 4 are good selections for any water clarity. X3, Quote
