Super User Nitrofreak Posted July 2, 2012 Super User Posted July 2, 2012 Well, Where does one start, the first thing I want to say is I hope everyone made it through the storms ok this past Friday night, they were NASTY to say the least. Went through my first tornado and seen my first funnel cloud in person, actually there were 3 funnel clouds that I could make out when the lightning would light up the night, although they were small in comparison to the ones you see on TV out west they still packed a pretty good punch. This is my house after Friday night, This was a 12X18 building where my bass boat was kept, Here you can see the path that the rest of the building took before it came to rest in the road that passes in front of my house. Incase your wondering, the bass boat is down over the hill too, along with the trailer, not to worry though the boat and trailer survived with very little damage, it broke the windshield and put a few chips in the paint and peppered my engine cover, the trailer has to have new lighting and one tire. The odd thing is, you can't see it in the pics but just to the right of the building was an empty aluminum tool box that goes on the back of your pick up, all it did to that was flip it upside down, it weighs approx 30 lbs. It took my 11,000 lb camper and pushed it about 6 ft, from where it is normally stored. No one was hurt, that is the most important part and the part I am most thankfull for. There were trees down everywhere, big trees too, we were with out power for the whole weekend, the power companys were on the ball and busy restoring power to a ton of people and by the end of the weekend they had most all power restored. It was 108 in the shade at the house yesterday, I can only imagine having to cut timber, lift powerlines, and install new poles that were broken in work vests and long pants and shirts, Thanks Guys and Gals !!!! I hope everyone else did ok !!! Good luck and be safe !!! Quote

Super User MCS Posted July 2, 2012 Super User Posted July 2, 2012 Glad you and your family are ok Nitro that is some crazy stuff. My wife's friend up in Odenton was without power for 31 hours as that area got knocked around too Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Lost power at 10pm Friday night and still dont have power, posting this from work. What sucks is everyone and everything around us have power, just the street i live on. there are two downed lines. the trees were cleared early saturday, but the power company says it could be a week before they restore power. didnt even see a power truck in the immediate area until yesterday evening, so im hoping today they can get it done. it was horrible sweltering all weekend. it was hard to find ice to keep my budweiser cold lol. next thing on the list to buy is a generator, cant find one now though lol. but it couldve saved a freezer full of food. been cooking every meal on the grill, even "frozen" pizzas which turned out pretty good actually. Did eat out once. No damage to the house, though some of the neighbors shingles flew off the roof and scratched up the hood of my car. i spent most all day yesterday outside because it was not as hot there as in the house. saturday i had to work some overtime so i only spent half the day sweating like crazy. i was greatful it cooled down outside yesterday evening to where you could sit outside and not sweat just from blinking an eye or lifting a finger. the worst part for me was trying to sleep, i just cant sleep when its that d**n hot...im dragging at work today if power aint back on soon, well, im atleast leaving for smith mountain lake tomorrow night or wednesday morning...
