I got off work at 8am, still in uniform and hit Lake Hefner on my way home. Hybrid Bass were pushing the shad inland and again top water was king. Not a bite on the Senko.

Anyway, I was bringing my popper in slowly and noticed a large fin behind it. Popped it and missed the fish. What happened next was kinda freaky. There had been this water snake hanging around watching the action. He was about 3 feet from where I missed the hit. As soon as I missed, I heard some thrashing and watched something huge just suck that snake half way down. The snakes head was still above water and took off for a few feet and dissapeared.

That snake had to have been well over 2-3 feet. I've never seen a snake get owned like that. I am just curious as to how big that dang fish was!!!! And why I missed the hit!

I am always down for a snake getting killed especially if it is by a fish.

I haven't seen anything like that in the wild just on youtube.

It could have been a a 3 lb(or more) Hybrid. I have seen largemouths attack topwater lures over 3/4 their size. It is not as uncommon as you think that a fish will eat something almost as big as itself. One time, when I was a kid, we were fishing and I left a rod over the water witch had a 4-6 inch Rapala Husky Jerk on it. The lure was just out of the water and a few minutes later, we came back and there was a one inch sunny dangling from one of the hooks! It had jumped out of the water to attack something 5 times it's size!

The other day I seen on YouTube where someone was using a artificial snake lure and largemouths were hitting it like crazy.

Big hybrids are bad mothers. As for missing the fish, it's possible that it inhaled your bait completely and when you set the hook it didn't pop the fishes mouth open or find a spot along the side of it's mouth and simply blew your bait back out, I've seen big bass do the same thing.

Could be. I think I was over excited too. When the hybrids are feeding every single cast is a good size fish. I was getting excited and might have worked the popper to fast. Patients is a vertue!

When the fish took off with that snake it looked like a scene from Jaws. It was wicked cool

Down here is FL, we use snake plastics. They are about a foot long. We use them for big bass, but every once in a while we will get a 2-3#er that will take it. Bass are ruthless.
