Has anyone here heard of these snake lures? They are long and surface lure's and look just like snakes. They kinda' fold up when still and they stretch out and go back to there original position when you jerk them. I have them but forget what they are called. Does anyone know if they would work well in a little farm pond where the normal sized bass is 1-3 lbs but get up to 8-10 lbs? The lures are around a foot or more in length.

Does it have a white belly and a dark back?

They are all solid colors

Might you be referring to Doug Hannon's Fishing Snake?

http://bassprofessor.../fishing-snake/

Yes those are them. Would you recommend these for this type of fishing. The type of bass in the pond are the ones in my gallery. All the bass in my gallery were caught in this pond.

They will work but use a big hook or you will start to get P Oed fast I have used them a few times with little success but the infomercial say they work great : )

I don't ever recall reading a post from anyone catching a fish on these snakes

who was not affiliated with the company. Buyer beware.

I have seen snakes in the pond, but never in the water. The only time I have ever used these snakes was in a REALLY small pond with small bass, so I really could not expect anything there.

It might just be the luck of the draw, but I regularly fish Ky Lake (lots of snakes), and I have never, ever, seen a bass even take a swipe at a snake. Me, I'd be leery of snake lures just for that reason.

Ive had my eye on these snakes for a while now. The youtube videos are amazing. No denying those. Just not sure about them... Seems as though alot of strikes would be missed unless the bass is big enogh to engulf the whole snake in one fell swoop. Of course in lake with 8-10lbers this is NO problemo!

Try em out and let us know. Ill follow this thread.

Good luck!

I tried them out today at this farm pond today and I saw a bass jump on the other side. I casted to it a couple times but it didnt hit it until it got right within 2 inches of the other shore. It was like a small explosion, but when I set the hook, the knot came out of the one spot on the bare hook. I have had that happen a few times over the years, but the bigger the hook, the bigger the space. If you have never noticed this, look at a big hook, not a lure, and look at the eye. I caught it a few minutes later on a spinner, and it was about 1 pound.

We getem on snake down here a lot. We use them for big bass, but occasionally there will be a little 3-4#er that will take it on.

I have watched bass attack snakes before, so I don't doubt that one would take a swipe at a small one. I have no experience with the new Doug Hannon snake, but back in the late 1980s Hannon put out a snake bait through Mann's Bait Co. I have caught several bass and pickerel on those (I still have some left) so I can vouch for their efficacy. The old one was more of a floating worm with a foam, snake-shaped head though.

I've tried the Hannon snake as recently as last season. Still a box of them. Not impressed. The action in the info-mercials is much better than the actual action you experience. Used them several times with the equipment recommended. Like I say, no takes. Maybe I'll them another whirl this season if I get bored. ;)

I saw a couple snakes swimming around a shore spot of mine so i bought a few manns hardnose snakes. They worked pretty well. only fished them twice but both times I got plenty of hard strikes. If you're seeing snakes where you fish, it cant hurt to try them out.

I bought Hannon's snakes a few years ago and had ZERO luck with them. Will they catch fish? Sure, there's a right time and place for everything. I just won't be wasting my time with the snakes. In fact, I gave mine away to a forum member. I seem to recall that they were very difficult to cast more than 30-40 feet.

P.S. They work extremly well hiding them in the toilet bowl or in the wife's underwear drawer.

Those would probably work great in certain situations. I like the fact that it is floating, coils and has a paddle looking tail. Like some mention already, downsouth here we use a lot of snake style baits. Some 16-18 inches long. BPS makes a 10 and 12in. worm in a anaconda color. I use them quite a bit. You can make them swim and twitch so realistic it's amazing. Check them out to.
