hawghunter00 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 will be picking sum of these up from bassproshop on my next visit i love them. The black back chartreuse are my favs. What ones do u like? I also have a question. When i am throwing from the boat to the shore. The water goes from 0 to about 7-8 ft where the boat sits. I can just about hit the shore from the boat. What would be the best crank to use depth wise? I dont want to throw one that dives too deep when i start my retreve from basically the shore, but i dont want to use a 0-3 and not get it to drag the bottom on the entire retrieve. Is it better to just use a like 3-6 kvd 1.5 or a 1.0 that goes 0-4? Quote
skeletor6 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I like the sexy shad and bluegill color. I would go with the 1.5 personally. The lure floats so you could keep it shallower than 3-6 if you wanted. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 2, 2012 Super User Posted July 2, 2012 The lure I am holding on the Home Page is a 3.5, yellow belly, purple back. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted July 2, 2012 Super User Posted July 2, 2012 The bait you want for that situation is the Rapala DT Thug, it gets down to about 3' or 4' really quick and if you reel slow and steady it will stay at that level, but if you add just a little speed and it doesn't take much, you can get it down around 7' on 12# line probable another foot or so on 10# line. Anyway, I use it to fish tapered points where I'm fishing from 2' or 3' of water out to about 8' or so. I have the boat in 10' of water and I throw it close to the bank and reel, once I feel it hit bottom I slow the speed up so that every 3 or 4 cranks it ticks the bottom and as soon as I go a few cranks and it isn't hitting bottom I speed it up until I hit bottom again. Trust me, that bait was designed for fishing shallow out to deeper water, the very situation you described. 1 Quote
bknap Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 the 1.0 and the 1.5 work very well.I havent tried anything any bigger though. I really dont think ther is a bad color out there.. every color looks good and will catch fish Quote
hike4steel Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 throw which ever one best matches the size of prey in your pond. As for depth and bottom contact i will hold my rod tip very high for shallower water then drop it down as the water deepens. Quote
craww Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 In that situation your rod posistion is everything. Point it straight up at 12 oclock when it first hits the water, lower as it gets closer. I've even caught fish on cranks with the rod 2' in the water. Quote
Jman59wl3 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 KVD 1.5 blue gill or orange belly work great! Quote
bassmaster8100 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I use the 1.5 and 2.5s. I've had the best luck on Sexy Shad. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted July 5, 2012 Super User Posted July 5, 2012 I use 2.5s the most among the baits mentioned. My favorite colors are Green Gizzard Shad and Orange Belly Craw depending on the forage and the water clarity. Quote

Is it better to just use a like 3-6 kvd 1.5 or a 1.0 that goes 0-4? I regularly throw cranks that dive deeper than the water I'm in. I'm addicted to bottom contact in rocks, gravel and timber. In weedy or muddy bottoms I won't try to bang the bottom the whole way (I'll probably grab a jig, spinnerbait, soft plastic or rattlebait there anyway), other than that I almost always get a crank that will run deeper than the water I'm in. Super User iabass8 Posted July 6, 2012 Super User Posted July 6, 2012 I'm a big fan of the 1.0 and 1.5 in sexy shad, chart/balck back and a custom red/black/orange. Quote
