Can you add a foot pedal to a trolling motor or are they only sold together?

Can these rigs go on the back of the boat, or are they all bow mounts?

What are the starting prices, something for a small 8' johnboat?

BPS & Cabelas catalogs both have lots of different trolling motors in them. This would give you a starting place on models available & price. Sometimes boat dealers or other retail outlets can get you a better deal on specific models due to close outs, overstock, etc.

By the way, a foot controlled trolling motor on an 8 foot jon boat seems like overkill to me. I think it would unnecessary weight. JMO. If I was putting a trolling motor on an 8' jon boat and money wasn't a big issue, I'd go with the most powerful 12 volt short shaft trolling motor I could find. A 55 lb thrust Minn Kota with variable speed would be perfect and the weight difference between that and a lesser powered trolling motor, say around 30 lbs thrust would be negligble.

Thanks for the response.

I was thinking about a foot pedal to try to position the boat especially when there's a fish on. I hate to take a hand off the rod to back up or move.

When I had a TM without a foot control I used an extension handle made out of a whiffle ball bat and cut a power line to the TM and put an old fashined foot actuated dimmer switch mounted in a junction box in the circuit for on and off. It seems to me that BPS and Cabelas have switches so you can turn the power off and on with your foot.

The Big Foot switch is the one most used to turn a hand controlled trolling motor on/off. A lot less effort to close the contacts than an auto dimmer switch or the really old fashioned foot operated starter switch.

There is a foot controlled transom mount motor available, BUT for more precise boat control, a bow mounted model is the best.
