Hi everyone, I'm going to see my grandparents this weekend up in Western PA, and they live 15 minutes from the East Branch Dam, a coldwater fishery with smallmouth. I have never caught a smallmouth before IN MY LIFE, I haven't even hooked one. I will be doing some Canoeing with my mom at the Dam and plan on fishing on one of our outings, we are there for 6 days.

What lures would you guys reccomend? Like I said its a Cold water fishery with Crystal clear water, docks, and rocks, and a Dam.

Here is a Map of it: http://maps.google.c....ed=0CD4Q_AUoAg

And here's a video I found of it:

And here's an article about it: http://en.wikipedia.....ion_River_Lake

I leave this saturday

Floating style jerkbaits, to be specific a Rattlin' Rogue ARB 1200 series in clown, log perch, or silver shiner. 3/8oz spinnerbaits, double willow blades if the water is clear, a single colorado if the water is dirty and an indiana/ small colorado tandem if the water is just stained, which is usually 2' to 3' visibility. 3" and 4" grubs in white, yellow , chartreuse, green pumpkin. Tubes are also going to work very well, colors like black, green pumpkin, watermelon/red flake will all be good choices and the hard baits you have for largemouth will also work for smallies. A good way to fish the tubes is with an insider jighead, it is just a tapered lead jig that fits inside the tube and then you push the hook eye through the wall of the tube and tie on your line, it isn't weedless but it is a very effective presentation.

Great suggestions!

I would add Fat Ika and the Sworming Hornet/ LFT Live Magic Shad to the mix.

I don't know if live bait such as worms is allowed, or what the minnow and baitfish restrictions are for the lake. I'd use live bait of any kind if nothing else is working, if it's allowed. Hellgrammites are one of the best, but I don't know if they have them in dammed lakes. For artificials, twitch minnows, powerbait worms, rapalas and storm crayfish are my favorites.

Went there today canoeng. Caught a 8 OUNCE Smallie on a slider head stik-o in green pumpkin. Saw a 2.5-3 pounder swimming around bream beds by the launch
