Super User Wayne P. Posted January 16, 2010 Super User Posted January 16, 2010 For the fishermen that have to deal with vegetation, I saw an interesting adaptation at the fishing show yesterday. The line tie is at the skirt collar with the line going thru the lead head. It's supposed to be "The Ultimate Weedless Jig". The bait monkey made me spend $4.17 including tax for one of them. I'll not sure I can make myself throw it near any cover, LOL It is called jigX. www.VerticalLures.com I have a brochure on my desk and the bright yellow paper keeps getting my attention. I'm going to the show again tomorrow and will avoid walking by that booth again. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 16, 2010 Super User Posted January 16, 2010 The ShakE2 jig head is darn near weedless, It does not have the typical eye. It's more like a verticle slot with a bar across it. The knot fits nicely into the recess, which keeps it from snagging things. Quote
Craiger12 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 That creature bait near the bottom of the page looks pretty sweet too, kinda like the rage smokin' rooster. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted January 16, 2010 Super User Posted January 16, 2010 You'll have to give a report after you test it. The one complaint I've heard is about damage to the line where it enters the jighead after a period of time. Seems like it should be no different than a worm weight though. Perhaps the older version had a sharper leading edge, or the fact that most worm weights can slide up the line a bit more to get out of the way and change the bend/angle when fighting a fish. That setup looks to be pretty unitized. -T9 Quote
aarogb Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Yeah I have seen those before. In fact a friend gave me a green JigX to throw but I haven't thrown it yet because it is so hard to tie a knot on the thing! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 16, 2010 Author Super User Posted January 16, 2010 Team9nine, I checked the construction and it looks like the hole that the line goes thru is a tube of some sort instead of just a hole in the lead. I tied on a piece of 17# mono and tried to break it by pulling real hard while rotating it around the hole edge. After about a minute, I checked the line and there was no preceptable line damage. The website shows a teflon tube for line protection. Trying to keep the skirt out of the way when tying the knot was somewhat annoying. The hook eye is on the bottom of the jig head Another note: if a Palomar knot is your favorite knot, you need to learn another one for this jig. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted January 16, 2010 Super User Posted January 16, 2010 Not a bad jig, but it is a pain to tie that knot and the skirt gets in the way as to try to tie the knot.I think I too would go with the ShakE 2 jig over this one. Just my two cents worth! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Im with Craiger, I like that creature bait!! Quote
Randall Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I have freinds that use it but I will not. It makes no sense to tie on a jig where you have to use a weaker knot than others you could tie with another jig just to tie it on. Just an overrated gimmick to me. Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted January 16, 2010 Author Super User Posted January 16, 2010 As far as the knot to use, there some that will work that are as strong or stronger than the Palomar. Quote
b.Lee Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Very interesting set up, but it seems to me at least you would spend a lot of time trying to thread the line Quote

Super User Paul Roberts Posted January 16, 2010 Super User Posted January 16, 2010 Nifty. Might save me snapping the rod some when fishing through gunk. But I think I'll stick with the Nichol's Mango. Quote
