I will be upgrading my drag to carbon fiber this week. I keep reading that Cal's is the grease to use but unfortunately I can't find this at any of the local shops. I would order some, but time is a factor with a fishing trip already planned for this weekend. Would i regret using BP grease or quantum hotsauce grease? Any other alternatives to Cal's that may available?

Shimano drag grease, Penn grease, etc etc. I generally don't like using the hot sauce products myself. Cal's is some great stuff, but like you I can't get it locally anywhere.

Gear grease (HotSauce, Blue Grease from Daiwa, Super Lube, etc.) is not good on drag pads Dartanium/Carbontex or otherwise.... :Victory:

Cals is manufactured for use with drag pads (can be found at Smoothdrag.com), Shimano has a Teflon drag grease (can be obtained from lots of sources) dedicated for drags only.

Good luck & Tight Lines! :fishing1:

I wouldn't use anything buy Cal's or Shimano drag grease. Definitely not grease meant for gears. You may be able to run the washers dry for now. I know that many companies carbon drags are sold dry, but that might not work well with Carbontex.

Go to eBay and type in cals drag grease. You can purchase it from a guy who puts them in 1oz condiment containers... Same exact stuff he just bought bulk and is makin a profit... I bought some last year and didnt even put a dent in my supply.... Once u use drag grease you should

Never need to apply more I believe

Carbontex drags can be run dry for raw power or greased for a little smoother action. Only use drag specific grease on any drag. Nothing lasts for ever, drags should be cleaned, inspected and regreased as part of a proper deep cleaning.
