Super User J Francho Posted June 27, 2012 Super User Posted June 27, 2012 Also up there, on the Finger Lakes, some the land owners hated that we had tournaments on 'their' lake and fished their docks and all that crap. A few docks up from the launch on Conesus, LOL. That guy is a NUT CASE. Quote
Fishing Cowgirl Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 As said peviously, avoid the bad behavior. For another,to get a positive image sent out to the public you can do a few simple things. Organize a local lake cleanup drive. Maybe even local boy scouts, girl scouts, other clubs can get involved as well. Advertise it with a flyer or even an article in a local news paper before or even after. Social media like Facebook and Twitter are very useful. Get out there with your boats, plenty of trash bags, and collect the trash from the lake. Things that have blown out of boats, washed in from the storm drains, or just stupid people who drop their trash overboard or off the sea walls. Have someone take photos and post them online, send it to the local media online with a small article or captions. That may change even a small number of people's opinions. Quote
NoBassPro Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Its those drunk people on jet skis and pontoon boats that annoy me. Some people will complain about anything, but for the most part the bass guys around here are far more laid back than the salmon or musky guys I know. A few of the tournament guys I know have some healthy egos, though. I lost count of how many times I've been called lucky. The only thing I've ever heard about bass fishermen is they need to go for something a little more challenging tbh. Usually from walleye guys, which makes me laugh. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 The thing to realize is, that jerks exist in all forms. Whether it be bass fisherman, crappie fisherman, recreational boaters, bank fisherman, or any other category you may encounter while enjoying the outdoors. My favorite is when I'm waterfowl hunting, and fisherman get too close. If I see an approaching boat, I make it highly visible that we are there, this is a blind, not a mound of grass, and that these are decoys and not real ducks. Yet I still have the occasional guy come right on in. Some play dumb, some argue, but as soon as I tell them the pictures I just took with my phone were for proof of his presence and documentation of his state boat ID number, they usually get pretty apologetic. Around here, you will be fined for being too close. But anyway, stupidity comes in all forms, and can be dealt with properly. My buddy Larry was hunting when some a bass boat came and zoomed in about 25 yards away. Larry's buddy was yelling and telling them that he was too close. The fisherman was being a jerk and refusing to move and yelling back. Suddenly Larry saw two ducks, and BOOM, BOOM. Right, next to the fisherman. They moved haha. As for the bad things said about bass fisherman, I've never heard anything from anybody. Quote
Bair Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Being a shore fisherman, my only problems are with the guys that buzz up to the exact same place and act like they own it as your fishing a little area or even a shadow. Then I just get lazy casting. Serves them right 1 Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted July 1, 2012 Super User Posted July 1, 2012 That's funny cause around here its the boat guys who gripe about throw shore fisherman Quote
BassThumb Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 A few bad apples will spoil the barrel, for both anglers and non-angling boaters alike. I've seen far more disrespect from boaters than I have from fisherman, especially when the boaters are property tax paying residents of the lake. They REALLY act they own the lake. I guess in a sense, they do, at least more than the folks using the public access. I've also realized that some of these boaters who may be perceived as disrespectful honestly don't know that they're getting too close or shutting down the fishing. Some of them are very nice, courteous people, they just don't understand. They're used to fishing for potato chip-sized sunnies once or twice a year with the grandkids, and those things couldn't care less about boat wakes and jetskis, so why would bass and walleye? Quote

Bair Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Oh, and I believe that personal experience often dictates how people act. I get to rent a boat three times a year maybe four if i'm lucky and being shore-bound I tend to avoid the annoyances that regular boaters pose.Maybe boaters have forgotten about what it's like to be stuck on the shore because I know we've all done it. The world would be a lot more courteous if everyone stood in each other's shoes for a few seconds to see the problems and annoyances they pose. Quote

unionman Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 If you are walking down the street and pass someone who says good morning, you will have forgotten it by the end of the day. But if, instead of saying good morning, that same person punches you in the face, you will remember that for the rest of your life. MORAL, bad really stands out! Hootie Im gonna have to start doing that when people forget my name....BAM!!! RIGHT IN THE KISSER!! Kinda like full metal jacket when gunny is teaching pvt. pile his right from his left. lol Quote
prjavelin Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 it seems like the lake I always fish was a lot more pressured before. I remember around 15 years ago I would go fishing with my family and we were stuck on fishing from shore with nightcrawlers and lines rolled into spray cans. the equipment was extremely cheap. we would always catch a bunch. apparently the bass fishing boom was on that time and there would always be boats getting really close. One day a boat came really close to us. to make matters worse he stopped and started casting towards us in the shore. I dont think it was their second cast when my father was fuming, cursing them out HARDCORE. IT took even less time for him to grab a couple rocks and hit their boat a couple times( i bet he was actually aiming at them). They immediately left. The whole sequence took less than 2 minutes to take place and its really funny now but it sucked and made me feel bad at the time. Im also shore bound. I Hate when they blast their boats and make waves. I hate when i see people trolling. Its the dumbest way to fish. Ive met a couple anglers in the ramp area and most were very friendly and many told me what they were using and tried to help me. Quote
