bowjunkie76 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Don't know if I was doing it right but it worked somewhat. I was running no weight or a 1/32 oz bullet weight and a 2/0 finess hook. Was using Yum Digger and Senkos. Cought several nice bass (all under 2 lbs) and 1 Hybrid on it. I have to post pics of the Hybrid. He took the whole 4" worm and hook in his mouth. I may be fishing it a little too fast but i am still trying to get the hang of it. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 26, 2012 Global Moderator Posted June 26, 2012 Sounds like you're doing just fine to me! The best luck I have is with no weight and just let it fall, raise the tip, and let it fall again. Mike Quote
johnnytoxin Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 He probably means a "wiper". A hybrid of a white bass and striper Quote

Killer bass3 Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I fish it like a jerk bait. I fish it weightless. I let it sink a little then just slowly jerk it back. Catches me a ton of nice bass Quote
johnnytoxin Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Oh I can't see the pic from my phone sorry. but here in socal when people say hybrid they usually mean white bass/striper Quote

Mumpy Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Yep, sounds to me like you're on the right path. Like someone has already said, Throw it out, let it sink to the bottom, raise rod tip 10", let it sink, rinse and repeat. Often times when you raise your rod tip for that first time you've got one on already. Get you some JJ's Magic Clear and Chartreuse as well to put on those Senko's. Also, not sure if you have it or not, but the Wacky Rig Tool is awesome, you can catch 4 to 5 bass on one senko rather than tearing your senko's up by hooking them through the middle. Quote
Super User deep Posted June 27, 2012 Super User Posted June 27, 2012 I sometimes throw 4" wacky senkos with a weightless Gammy finesse hook on my ultralight rod with 2/10 braid. It is a lot of fun. Quote

What do you mean by hybrid? ....Bill It is a Bluegill it was around 11" long and put up a good fight. Mumpy, What is a Wacky rig Tool? I went through a pack of Gary Y's in about an hour and that can get expensive. Need all the tricks I can get. I like the 1/32 bullet weight as when I raised the rod tip it made a clicking sound against the Hook. Maybe that is good or bad??? Quote
Mumpy Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I purchased mine Tackle Warehouse, pick up an extra package of O Rings as well. Just go to their site and do a search for Wacky Rig Tool, This is a MUST have if you're going to fish Wacky Rig. Saves SOOOOOOOOOO Many Senkos!! Quote
bowjunkie76 Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 Cool thanks for the info Lets try these photos the first ones were scaled down for size so I went to photo buckett. Here is one my buddy caught on a KVD Square bill Quote
WookieeJedi Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 There is no wrong way to fish a wacky rig, just different ways. Quote
logan9209 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 When you said hybrid I thought it might have been the ones we have in my lake. It's a warmouth/ rock bass. Them jokers are more aggressive than bass and will dern near go after anything. To top it off, they might be 4 ounces but will fight as if you have a 2 pound bass. I've tried wacky rig (must not been doing it right), usually I end up t-rig weightless. As soon as it hits bottom it becomes a jerkbait of a sort. I pop it twice and then let it fall back down. Rinse and repeat. I had a little 5" small mouth trying to suck it down. Sadly, it was the only bass I caught today. 1 Quote

Same here in Indiana. Most locals call them rock bass, but they are warmouth. They strike hard and put up a great fight for a small fish. They are usually buried deep in the weeds. Quote

The wacky-o-tool as its known at bassproshops.com is a metal tube that you place the end of your senko style bait into and slide a rubber o-ring down until it comes off the metal tube and onto the senko. You don't end up stretching out the plastic and, when you put your hook through the ring, you can cast without worrying about ripping through the senko and sending two halves of it flying into the water. I never use a bullet weight when wacky wormin. If I want the extra drop rate to get to the bottom faster I'll wacky rig a senko/dinger on a finesse style jig head. And I don't believe there is a wrong way to fish a wacky worm. Just find a retrieval pace/presentation that works that day at that body of water and keep doing it. Quote
swarrin4 Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Nice fish. One thing to note when fishing plastics is line watching. Many times you won't see the bite just you line acting funny. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 30, 2012 Super User Posted June 30, 2012 I never tried wacky until a few months ago. Quite honestly I did not enjoy it and probably will never do it again. I happen to try it when the bass fishing was very active here, catching fish was not the problem. I used a senko with a circle hook thru the middle, since I didn't have to set the hook that did remove some fun for me, I did notice that the same sized fish didn't seem to fight as hard as they may have with another technique. Quote
mikey5string Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 wacky rigging is just hooking a soft plastic through the middle rather than the nose. Try it with a fluke, I like it better than rigging it the standard way. You can jerk/twitch it or let it sink. There really is no "right" way, just the most popular way (which is a result of senkos fluttering fall) Tarpon, Not sure I know what you mean about not setting the hook, I do when wacky rigging. Sometimes the fish will swim off and hook themselves but that happens with all similar soft plastics. Also, the part about fish not fighting is not the case around here. I havent noticed a difference between techniques. Sometimes they run towards you, sometimes they are small and cant battle the rod as well. Weightless senko fishing (letting it fall to the bottom) is a little boring to me. I feel like it is a step above bait fishing ; ) You're not really working the lure....not as fun for me at least. One thing is for sure. Senkos DO catch a lot of fish! Quote

If you can't find the advertised "Wacky Tool" or whatever name they want to call it, get yourself a ball point pen [the kind you have to screw apart to change the ink refill tube] the bottom part where the point comes out is your wacky tool. Super_fluker Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Best and eisest way to wacky rig in water less than 6 feet is just a circle owner hook and senko worm of any size. Let it sink and jig it back up to the top, and repeat. Quote
