Got off work at 8 this morning. 93 degrees sunny, not a cloud in the sky and no wind. I wanted to try running some new jigs on the dock area today. 15 minutes into that with no luck, the bait fish were going bonkers all over the place. Grabbed my top water rig and let loose. I was using a brand new Popper in silverish. It was a feeding frenzy man. I swear I could have thrown a bare hook and caught fish. Unfortunately no large mouth. Lake Hefner in OKC has a hybrid bass alot like a striper/wiper. They are mean to the bone.

I ended up stopping count at 45 fish. Most were 12-13 inches but I did keep 9 that were 20 plus. The biggest one measured 26 3/4". When that sucker hit the popper it sounded like a 22lr going off. The bait fish were being pushed up north to the dam and I followed. I ended up quitting at noon as it was 101 and I was worn out. My thumbs are all chewed up, my popper needs new hooks and the paint is shot. I tried a few different plastic baits and some cranks but not a single bite. Top water was king. At one point it was so crazy they were hitting my line about 10 feet up from the popper.

Man it was a great day. Fish all cleaned and in the freezer. I have been up for 36 hours and the caffeine has wore off. I am going to hit it again tomorrow.

Sounds like great fun. A feeding frenzy of any species comes around all too infrequently for this angler.

Yepper. Did it again back home in Pratt Kansas yesterday. We burried my father yesterday and my cousin and I had a few shots and fishing to remember dad by.

It is good that you have fishing to remember your dad by. Easy to do and you can always do it. You need to think about the good times and try to make the time your in as good as it can be.
