ToddP Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I'm without a boat right now but I can rent a boat/trolling motor at my home lake for $15 / day. The lake is closed to "personal boats" because of zebra mussels. So I'm in need of a portable fish finder with side view. Anybody have any good suggestions? Thanks! Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted June 25, 2012 Super User Posted June 25, 2012 Sorry, but to my knowledge, a portable fish finder with side-scan does not exist. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted June 25, 2012 Super User Posted June 25, 2012 Check out the Hummingbird Fishing Buddy series. Some of those models have a first generation style side scanning capability. I have one and it works ok. It does kind of eat batteries, the newer models might be better about that. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 25, 2012 Super User Posted June 25, 2012 I have a similar situation on a large drinking water reservoir. You can adopt any sonar to a portable bracket, such as what is available at Cabelas. Then find a good used sonar on eBay and put the two together: Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 25, 2012 Super User Posted June 25, 2012 I use my Humminbird 1198c SI as a portable sometimes. With any electronic equipment, you imagination is your only limitation. The setup the Crestliner has will easily work with a Humminbird Side Imaging unit since only one transducer is needed. That subject has been discussed before: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/103104-best-depthfinder-for-rented-boats/ Quote
