Do You Spank Your Kid(S)?

It makes me mad hearing that some "Old Hag" said that to you. Things like that bother me. I agree with you about the spanking. I never had to have them to often when I was little. My brother, he did several times. It didn't bother me so much when my mom did it, but if I disappointed my dad so bad that he even had to raise his voice to me, I was crying my eyes out. A whoopen after that meant I really did something wrong....or admitted that it was me when it really wasn't.

I think it just shows a kid (some kids) how you feel about the situation. It has nothing to do with hurting the child, just a physical way of showing your disapproval. And, sometimes that more than enough for the kid to never want it to happen again (at least for that day) lol

As far as my child. He gets them from time to time. Never because he's mean, just mischevious lol. But he knows that we've given all his teachers, principals, and anyone that he's stayed with the permission to bust his butt if he gets out of line. And if that happens, he knows its going to be way worse when he gets home.

I'm pretty sure I kept at least one yard stick manufacturer in business as kid as many as got broke on my behind. Thing is, the taste of soap left a far more lasting impression.

So here's the question, between yard sticks, belts and willow switches, which is most effective?

Man, them leather belts left a fine tingle. We always had to go in the yard and pick our own switch though when we did get in trouble. If we didn't find a good one, mom or dad sure could. And we ended up getting one with ours and with theirs.

I agree with spanking,but I'm told you can get into serious trouble for it. My mother in law got sent to jail for spanking her youngest daughter when she was in middle school.There's a longer story to this....but the police officer told her she cannot touch a child(spank) for any reason what so ever. The mother in law is not a bad mother either...I know her pretty well now and agree with a lot of things she says.

In this scenario, we would have taken the kid back home and he would have been grounded from games and TV. According to everybody here that's the only way to punish kids(absolutely cannot touch or hit them). I always get into an argument with everybody here about the spanking issue. So it's even harder for me,because I still believe in old school discipline.

Spanking if done correctly is an effective method of behavioral correction, the problem is when you spank out of anger, don't explain the reason for the spanking or the behavior continues after the spanking. With my son it takes one time, I explain to him why he will be getting a spanking, why the behavior is unacceptable after being warned verbally and then the spanking with my bare hand.

Thats interesting. I read all of them. From what I understand. It is legal for parents, family, and in some states teachers or trusted people. To give a child a spanking if they have it coming in all states.

I seriousluy doubt she went to jail for "just" spanking her child.

I recall the one time I was going to take my belt to my son.

My wife had a really bad day while out shopping with the kids, my son was really being a hard head, she told him "just wait until your farther gets home - he's going to take his belt and blister your butt, and you wont be able to set down for a week." Dose this sound familiar to any of you?

Well, as soon as I got home my wife takes me into our bedroom (some how I knew I wasn't going to get lucky) and she started unloading on me everything that had occurred during the day. And she ended with something like "and I want you to go in there and take your belt to him". I was shocked, she never said anything like that before.

So I go into my sons room and he's setting on the edge of his bed; I told him to stand, turn around and bend over; and with that I pull my belt off. Well Mike saw that and started screaming and doing a dance like he's running in place with his arms flapping; I just stand there and watched, and soon my wife comes in and asked what did I do? I said NOTHING!

Mike believed I was going to actually blister his butt.

I don't recall having a problem with either of our children after that, sure, we may have raised our voice but they didn't push us to the point of the belt.

Haha, that's funny. I did the same thing once.

First, I don't believe (most of the time) in "late" punishment. I refuse to spank my kid because he was bad with his mother while I wasn't there.

This story is going WAYYY back. My girlfriend (now ex) and I dated for 6 years and had a house together. We were basically married, just no rings or certificate (thank goodness). Anyway, one of my two sons had really ticked her off over something very trivial. Girlfriend told me to spank him or she was leaving. I took my son in the room and pretended to spank him. I spanked the bed and he pretended to be in pain by screaming. I must say we both did an awesome job of acting. I walked out of the room and closed his door saying "And don't you come out until you learn to show some respect."

The girfriend was happy, my son was laughing and I kept the peace.
