MrSwimJig Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Has anyone tried the reel and or rod? I really love the color combination and Tackle Tour gave the reel a great review. Just looking to see who if anyone has any experience them? Quote
BassCats Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 I have not tried the new line up. I do have 3 cayennes that they no longer carry. There customer service is fantastic. Anytime I had a problem I just called them up and they would go out of there way to help me out. Quote

northern basser Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 I have 4 cayennes and one of the new Komodo's(the reel right below the Helios). I can't speak for the rod, but you will love the reel. The Komodo has quickly become my favorite reel and I've tried many. I like the cayennes, but the Komodo is in a different league and I'm sure the Helios is equall or better in performance. Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I've used both the Helios rod and reel. I like them both very much! Paired together its possibly the lightest combo on the market. I used the combo for pitching and flipping on a local river for several hours. It preformed flawlessly! 1 Quote
MrSwimJig Posted August 4, 2012 Author Posted August 4, 2012 So I received my Okuma Helios reel and rod today. First impression of the reel very impressed and the rod looks very impressive as well. So I spooled up the reel with some 10lbs line(trying the new Spider Wire Ultra cast, Ultra mono) and am ready to hit the water with it tomorrow. Tied on a 5/16oz North Star swim jig. Quote
Diggy Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 the spinning combo looks tasty as does the bc Quote

Toeshots Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I have in interest in the Helios and the Komodo casting reels. It looks like the 2013 Helios has dropped $20 in price and is now the same as the Komodo. I was comparing the two and all that's different that I can tell (besides looks) is the Helios is a little lighter (6.3 oz vs 6.7) and has 2 fewer bearings (9 vs. 11) than the Komodo. I wish I could find a more detailed comparison, but they just aren't out there. I emailed Okuma and they basically repeated what I had already known. How much difference would two fewer bearings make? Do you take the lighter weight or more bearings? Quote

Why mono and not fluorocarbon? Dont you think there will be too much stretch in the hookset? Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 22, 2013 Super User Posted January 22, 2013 Why mono and not fluorocarbon? Dont you think there will be too much stretch in the hookset? You are buying into what many people post Online about fluoro having no stretch (as one advantage over mono). Go read TackleTour's comparison of various fluorocabon lines. They have plenty of stretch. I have 10# on one of my Fuegos. I got snagged in the rocks on the Delaware river. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the fluoro I am using has as much stretch as any mono I currently use. When it finally snapped I had to cut even more off because of the way the end of the line had frayed. That doesn't happen with my mono. Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted January 22, 2013 Super User Posted January 22, 2013 Can't help with the original question but will second the post about their customer service. I accidentally ruined the grip on the handle. Called to purchase a new one as it was my fault. They asked how long ago I bought the reel and where from. Sent me a new handle free of charge. 1 Quote
MrSwimJig Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 can you please let me know if the spiderwire in your opinion is more sensitive than other monos. The line is ok but not that great. I would say their is definitely better mono lines out their. I went back to Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Quote
MrSwimJig Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 Please be sure to give us a detailed review. Thanks. I will definitely give a full review here in the near future. So far the reel is AMAZING and the rod is pretty good. I am just waiting to get some more time with this combo. Quote

Toeshots Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Very interested to read the review. I have 2 brand new SC Avids that needs reels. I am going with a Lew's Tournament Pro on the 7' MH/F and was really thinking about the Helios on the 7' M/F. Quote
