flipin4bass Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I had eight bass blow-up on this frog this morning and was able to land six. Sorry Dean, but I think I'm retiring my Spro frogs. These River2Sea frogs have a much softer body and make hook-setting very easy. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted August 31, 2009 Super User Posted August 31, 2009 I'm with you. The Spro Bronzeye frog is currently enjoying the limelight, but in my opinion the River2Sea Croaker-65 is a superior tool. The keeled belly provides good dog-walking traction and the hollow body is less prone to taking on water (I detest wringing out hollow frogs after every 3rd cast). Roger Quote
flipin4bass Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 You're right about these frogs not taking on water, the only time I had to squeeze water out was after I had landed the fish. I didn't mean to be so critical of the Spro frogs, but I've given the Bronze eye more than a fair chance past couple of years and it just doesn't produce as well as I like. I've never claimed to be an expert, however I've fished 40+ years and I know how and when to set a hook. The River2Sea beats Spro hands down IMO. Quote
Shimmer Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Those River2Sea frogs are pretty nice lookin! Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted August 31, 2009 Super User Posted August 31, 2009 Me thinks I'm going to have to buy me some croakers. I get hits on spros and land fish but they take on water terrible. However the bronze eye popper doesn't seem to take on much water. Quote
dan1942 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I was using a Bronzeeye popper last night and I had to squeeze the thing in between every cast. I will have to give those others a shot as well. Are they easier at walking the dog ? Did you have to trim the legs? Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 The Spro frog getting some water side isn't necessarily a negative. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I haven't used the River2Sea as long as I've used the Spro but from my experience the spro rips a lot easier than the Croaker. Before I bought the Croaker I read a lot about it taking on water but I've been pretty pleased so far. I also think the Croaker is a little easier to work than the Spro, maybe because of the lighter weigt. Personally if it came down to the two I'd buy the Croaker over the Spro. Quote
Super User CWB Posted September 1, 2009 Super User Posted September 1, 2009 I've been a huge fan of the Snagproof Bobby's Perfect Frog. Good weight, great hook placement and softer body. If I'm shooting a frog into reeds or bullrushes, I like a harder body and go to the Spro or Boze Sumo due to less hangups. For the edges and lighter stuff the Rage Shad has been my No. 1 bait. Quote
Koop Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 May have to try one or two of these and compare to my spro's. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Spros have caught me many fish, but I will admit the hook up ratio is bad for me. Quote
Bigs Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I still call them bully wa's but I agree they are nicer then the spros. However a spro will cast farther out of the box. Just add some weight to the River2sea frog if u wanna cast further. I will say tho that I think a spro will last longer and I have both. The spro feels more durable in my hands which is also what makes it cast longer(heavier) but hoosk less fish. A double edge sword eh....I probably have 5 of each or so but to be honest I have bad luck with frogs in general so they gather dust . Its been a bad summer for topwater bite round here but this month should be much better, so my frogs might have to come out to play soon if I start seeing some results. No question you will land more fish with the bully wa since its so soft and collapses faster. As far as water gettin in, I have never had a problem with either. Water tends to get in once the hooks penetrate the frog which is bound to happen. Since I never catch anything with frogs, I have never have that problem lol. And a lil water will help u cast further so why is it a big deal? Dont think for a minute that the bass cares if theres water inside that frog. Also check out River2sea's bubble popper which I have results with as well as their bubble walker which is a walking version of the bubble popper. Their gear is tough to beat for the price and they catch fish trust me Quote
flipin4bass Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 UPDATE: Here's the same frog after landing 11 bass. Other than a little paint coming off the front it's still providing solid hooksets. There has been no punctures from the hook, but with such a soft body that might change. Either way, with 11 bass to it's credit, it's paid for itself. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I tried a couple that a buddy of mine had and loved them! So much that i just ordered a bunch from TW! Quote
Super User Dan: Posted September 7, 2009 Super User Posted September 7, 2009 I've been doing so well with the Spro and TT that I haven't even tried my River2Sea. I'll have to try it the next time I go froggin' Quote
westpalmfrogpunk Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I like both of the frogs. I just got into the river2sea frogs. But there are some tricks to make the spro frog more fishable. Leave the spros on the dashboard for a few days in the heat that will soften the plastic and then bend the hooks out and up just a bit. This will really increase your hookups. Quote
junebugmn Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I went to a gander mtn store, and lo and behold there was a "clearance" bin loaded with spro frogs, but they were all 7.99! What the heck do you have a clearance bin for, could someone explain this to me? junebugmn : :-X Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 11, 2009 Super User Posted September 11, 2009 That's $1 off. Quote

dauberangler Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 River2sea is my favorite tackle of choice. Never used frogs but got a couple on the way, so wish me luck yall. Quote
legendaryyaj Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Ive NEVER had a problem with my Spro. I have no idea how anyone can stand using a snagproof frog. Quote
umahunter Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 i like my lil spro but it dam near tore in half after 4 fish ive caught a couple more on my r2s and its still fine plus i really like its shape it throws water well when jerked even in chop caught this nice guy yesterday in 25 mph winds rippin it across the chop Quote
llPa1nll Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I dunno I have great hookups with the Spro frog. Sure it leaks in some water now and then. Is that a bad thing? Having it sit lower in the water I think is a positive. Right now I have the all black red eyes Spro Frog tied on. Love me some full contact frogging. Just curious maybe you guys arent fishing this on the same equipment I am. Im throwing this on a Heavy All Star Flipping Stick, 40lb Power Pro Braid, and my drag cinched almost tight. I have half the summers worth of fishing on it and it still catches fish. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted September 23, 2009 Super User Posted September 23, 2009 The spros get strikes for sure, but sometimes they leak like a sieve. One day I did hook 8 bass on a spro but all spit the hook. That was on mono though and not braid. Quote
CHEVYRIDAZ Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I sold all my Spros after trying the R2S frogs one time! The are a lot easier to walk because of the belly keel and hook up percentage is way better as well! Quote
