I was looking at the Berkley Lightning Shock Rod (spinning) at BPS and it seems to be a fairly nice rod for the $$...... How do these handle with Mono, as they seem to be designed for braided line? The bottom guide seems on the small side and wonder if it will hinder casting with Mono? I was looking at the 6'6" M and I really liked the action. Thanks in advance......

I have that exact spinning rod, as my truck/pond hopping rod. Decent rod for the $$, but I only fish it with braid. The actions seem to be a little bit more moderate because they were designed for low stretch braid, hooksets with mono might be iffy on anything except exposed hook lures.

Surprisingly light for the money. Moderate for a little more than the tip but with a strong backbone. A great action to walk topwaters with. My fishing buddy caught a 47# black drum using one. I use one as my bridge and jetty rod so I dont risk a top dollar rod on the rocks. Its become one of my favorite rods. The older I get the less I like expensive rods.

I have a bunch of these rods. I use one for my 50E with 12# YoZuri. No problem with throwing any type of bait. Strong as he!!, and great sensitivity. The best rod for the $ in my opinion.

I have an older 6'0 Berkley Lightning rod in the Medium-Light variety. I use my little EZ-Flip Shakespeare ugly spin on it with light (6-8lbs) line. She casts 1/4 & 3/8 oz lures fairly well and reacts well to strikes.

It's a nice little rod that I salvaged, it only has the hand & half grip though.
