Nothing you need to buy, just time on the water. And some more time on the water. When something worked, ask yourself why. What did you do? Where did you throw it? Watch fishing shows, and read forums. Don't get distracted by the amazing fish you will see and on what brand name item this pro or that pro is throwing, but on what and how they were fishing. It's hard at first. I believe that time on the water is the basics, then which lure or worm is best is perfecting.

Spend some time in our library, "Fishing Articles" at the top of the page.

The first thing I would note is the the ""where" is far more important than

the "what". Find the fish and almost anything will work even when your

selection might not be "the best" for the situation. Generally, fish will either

be focused on "bottom baits" or "moving baits". If you can find the fish,

throw nothing but a Senko and a Redeye Shad and you will catch some bass!

Man do I wish I had read this when I was starting out. But then again my family would be smaller w/o the bait monkey.

So my main area i should be focused on is finding the bass but that is another thing I struggle with because i usually just fish shallows and docks structures close to shore i really dont no how to get on bass

It's better to buy a few quality pieces of equipment one at a time than to buy a bunch of lower quality gear all at once. This holds true for rods, reels, lures and terminal tackle.

It's the "where" mike...even without electronics. Every lake has docks and they do hold fish. What I will continue to improve on is finding key structure that defines the body of water. View shoreline changes to find underwater points, and that's a start. Water inflows and outflows can also uncover channels and hot spots after rain.

Today anyone starting out would get confused with all the conflicting information available on bass fishing forums .......too much information can overload weekend bass anglers.

You live in northeastern region, what type of bass are you trying to catch; LMB or SMB? Type of lakes you fish? Tackle (rod, reel, line), do you own and bass boat or shore fishing?

Can you answer those few ? Lets see if we can get you back on track and start catching some keepers regularly.

The best bass anglers can't catch inactive bass and they don't waste time trying. The key is fish for catchable bass with presentations that are work under the conditions where you fish and that is why I asked the above questions.

Time on the water may help if you can determine active feeding cycles and seasonal bass locations. You can spend a lifetime fishing at the wrong locations or at the right locations at the wrong time and never become consistant at catching bass.

Likd WRB says, you need to give us more specifics. Are you fishing lakes, reservoirs or rivers? Species? From a boat or from shore? If in a boat, are you using your electronics? What have you been trying so far?

And, like roadwarrior says, there's a ton of good information here in the "Articles" section.

Sounds like you don't need to 'get' anything. Pick something out that you already have, find an article on it in our library, read an article or two from our pros on where to throw it, and then go practice until it starts to work. You have to catch your own fish and you will if you don't run out of patience first. Just remember that this is supposed to be fun.

,Learn what structure and cover are. If you already know what they are, hammer both and you will find bass. I recommend Keeping it Simple.

Senkos: Black/Blue flake for stained to dark water and Green Pumpkin for clear to slightly stained water

RES: Sexy Shad/Bluegill for clear to slightly stained water and Chartruese for stained to muddy water

I am fishing on lakes I have a v hull boat with a 6hp 2 stroke johnson i am fishing for mostly largemouth and i like to fish all day but during the day i rarely get fish bigger than a pound due to the fact i dont really have a clue where to go and i started back with the basics im using crankbaits spinnerbaits and rubber worms t rigged as in curly tail 7 in worms with 2/O hooks i gave up on wacky worms they were doing well but i lost interest because they were way to slow and i have much better luck with crankbaits and the rubber worms usually do 10x better anyway if anyone can give me help it would be great

Mike, you're 17 years old(Happy Birthday, by the way), and you haven't caught a ton of giants yet......What a surprise......If you keep doing the things that you're doing, and do them in the right order, then I have a hunch that you'll catch plenty of fish. Use those surface running crankbaits early and late in low light conditions. Use the spinnerbait when the early bite stops and before the late bite begins and bounce the worms off the bottom in the weeds in the middle of the day. This doesn't work every time.....but it does work.

Thank you for the birthday wish haha but yes I have been trying to get into the spinner bait more because i here there good for covering a lot of water but still during the midday fish go deeper and i find the spinner bait hard to fish in deeper water haha I just need to practice more im assuming and I have to get my gear more organized
