I was bored at work and I was searching stuff on Youtube. I came across a tip from KVD. He pretty muched said, that you do not have to fish a shakey head slow. He also said for the most part he fishes it fast. What are your reaction to this?

I for one, always fish it slow. Its not a search type lure. I throw it mainly when I know the fish are there and they not active.

I fish it slow as well and I would never use it as a search bait. That said kvd is pretty good at this whole deal so tht might work for him the way he does it. Give it a shot and you might find it works well. Btw saw the same video lol

I'm still thinking about it. Maybe if the bass is more active, it will work. But wouldn't fish it fast if the bass are inactive.

Kvd- Kevin van Dam and shakey head is a light jig head used to make hold a floating type worm on the bottom in an uprite position giving it a ton of action in a slow moving presentation. Not a "normal" search bait by any means

I ought to try that shakey head one day, although I'm not much of a worm user. Sometimes when I am in the worm mood, I will take a ribbon tail and mount it on a light leadhead jig head, I can fish it at the speed of my choice, it's been very effective. During the same outing without making any changes I will swap out the worm for a fluke. I'm not happy unless I'm working a bait.

SirSnookalot, the shaky head is dynamite in Virginia waters.

You have to try it.

Using one of your favorite 1/6 to 3/16 jig heads and matching it up with a Zoom trick worm or Swamp Crawler on 8 pound flouro on a spinning rig you are ready to roll.

I am throwing the shaky head more than ever with outstanding results.

I am not much of a a soaker or dragger either. I fish it fast. Cast...fall....drag/shake and/or,deadstick (depends how they want it) for a lil bit......repeat.

Here is the problem.

We are discussing a tactic as it pertains to a way of rigging a bait. For example my favorite way of fishing a craw style bait is to "rig" it on shakey head and drag it across the bottom (tactic). For KVD he is rigging a worm like a shaky head but he is fishing it more like a light texas rig.

At the end of the day fishing a shakey head (which is a tactic) means letting the bait sit on the bottom and slowly shakey it. Once you stop doing that and start fishing the bait differently you are no longer fishing a shakey head even if it is rigged like one.

I fish a very weedy lake with a lot of muck on the bottom. I tend to do a lift and drop return a lot. cover water faster and get many hits a couple of seconds after the fall.

you can hop them along the bottom at a decent pace and still be "shakey head" fishing. IMO the jig style is what makes it a SH. with the nose down and the tail up. I use craws on them and hop them along as well as just twitching trick worms.

Craws look great on them as it looks like one in a defensive position (claws up) In that case you want to be hopping it along the bottom like a fleeing craw.

A typical texas rig doesnt allow the bait to "stand up" on the bottom like a shakey head.

The only thing I wouldn't do is reel them up mid depth like a crankbait. Not that you couldnt get fish like that, just better options for that type of fishing.

Well.. Fishing from shore I use this and a drop shot as a search bait I guess you could say. Feeling for any rocks, stumps and anything out of the ordinary, When I do find something I'll make a few casts to it then search for something else.

I lose a lot of jig heads and weights (even spin shot hooks which are getting expensive!), but oh well. Works great on the pressured lake I fish the most.

But if Shimano made shakey head jigs, they would be way better than the Lew's shakey heads!!!
