angler1 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Instead of using a jig head to fish wacky style, has anyone used a circle hook and pegged a weight to the hook. Also when fishing wacky style, is there a weight limit that should not be exceeded? Quote
D4u2s0t Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 If I use a weight, I use a 1/8 oz keel hook. Any more than that really starts to kill the action, which is the main reason why a wacky rig works. Quote
Copen1822 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I occasionally use a weight but I don't peg it. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 Instead of using a jig head to fish wacky style, has anyone used a circle hook and pegged a weight to the hook. Also when fishing wacky style, is there a weight limit that should not be exceeded? I have not done it that way, but it sounds like a great idea. I often put a split shot on the hook, near the eye. I have also used jigs up to 5/16 oz with good success in windy conditions. Thanks for the post. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 Add the weight above the swivel Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 1/32 weight for wacky in the summer. If you want more weight, you might as well throw the Flick Shake using a jig head. I want a slow fall when fishing wacky so the 1/32 is usually the heaviest I will go. Quote
6mile Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Why any extra weight at all ?? I go as light as possible, no swivel and a light wire hook. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 12, 2010 Super User Posted January 12, 2010 Why any extra weight at all ?? I go as light as possible, no swivel and a light wire hook. Rate of fall triggers bites Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted January 12, 2010 Super User Posted January 12, 2010 You can also use a circle hook with a splitshot just above the hook. Quote
angler1 Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Why any extra weight at all ?? I go as light as possible, no swivel and a light wire hook. When I don't use a weight I have a hard time judgeing what the bait is doing. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 12, 2010 Super User Posted January 12, 2010 I don't use a circle hook, and I don't peg a sliding weight, but I do use the pinch on bullet weights, in something like 3/32 just to get the fall rate up. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 12, 2010 Super User Posted January 12, 2010 I've had good results using these weighted hooks with wacky rigged trick worms. I don't use any weights when wacky rigging Senkos. I doubt these hooks were intended for this application but they work well. http://www.***.com/descpageMUSWRMHK-MIWWH.html Quote
