Broke bass fisherman Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 When fishing soft plastic lizards and other creatures are there any specific techniques or am I utilizing the same retrieves as i would with other soft plastics. Quote
RyneB Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 i use whatever technique is working on that specific day. Whether it be dragging, hopping,or pulling fast and killing it trying to imitate a feeling craw,or you can dead stick it. I always say there is no wrong way to fish a plastic. I have found techniques that work by accident. One time i threw out my lizard on a weed edge, i had a backlash of all backlashes. I picked it out for a few minutes, i took 2 turns of the reel and the lizard got whacked. The rest of the day i reeled the reel a few turns, then killed it for 5-10 seconds, and it was deadly. I now try that method with rage craws and other baits, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I like to take a rage craw and dip the claws it chart dye and slow roll it through the weeds and it has came through for me time after time. Quote
A-Rob Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 I fish grass a lot so I use a yo-yo technique mainly...just a matter if it is fast or slow I guess would be my variable. If I swim it, i let it sink into the weeds a bit then lift it free...so thats a yo-yo variation haha. If I drag it I get it all stuck in the weeds. Quote
logan9209 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 With soft plastics I am stuck on the same basic retrieve: 2 small light jerks, pause while reeling in slack, and repeat. It's a slow process but it's worked for me. Then again, it's not good to get hung up on the "It worked last time.....". One way may work some days or even a couple of hours while other times the bass may be wanting it faster or slower, small hop or ripped up and flutter down, dragged, or even swimming. If your knowledge and gut tells you there should be bass there then experiment with it until you get a bass. Remember that retrieve and keep using it until the bites drop off and go back to the drawing board sorta speak. I've actually had a few times where one bass would nail it on the short hops and then the next bass would nail it on my retrieve so I could cast back out. Quote
