I am looking for some lightweight clothing that I can wear during the dog days of summer that will keep me protected from the sun. What are some good brands to look for and what kinds of materials? I would like to have long sleeve and long pants but lightweight of course to keep me cool. Thanks for the help!!

Being that I'm on my boat over 100 days a year and I hate sunscreen. I take sun protective clothing very seriously. I love Columbia shirts and pants. They have served me well over the years. I pair them with a UV Buff face protector and the good ol Georgia Bulldog hat and I'm pretty much good, but before I realized that I needed to have long sleeve shirts I bought a bunch of short sleeved ones and so I thought I was stuck with having to put sunscreen on again. But I just recently discovered Simms Sunsleeves. They are pull over sleeves that cover the part of your arm that short sleeved shirts don't. Now that I've found them I have started to look at the rest of the Simms line and they look much better than Columbia but they are pricey. So I may just put them on a wish list or something.

I go long sleeved with a regular base layer type moisture wicking shirt from Target. It's very light and cool, pulls sweat off your skin and dries quickly. I've never been one to get overly warm on my legs so I just wear some nylon gym pants. I top it off with a straw lifeguard hat I bought from a surf shop. I still get some sun from reflection off the water and when the hat has to come off to drive the boat. What I need to figure out now is what the gloves are I see the pro's where. I would just cut the fingers off some cotton gloves but cotton holds water.

It's almost always warm in Florida, my clothing selection is based on the wind. West wind and the no seems will eat you up alive, I wear long sleeves and fishing pants with a head buff, and the heat boils me. If the wind is from the east, no bugs, shorts and t shirts then. I don't care for synthetic fabrics for my shirts, cotton keeps me more comfortable.

I listen to the NYU Hospital channel on Sirus radio from time to time and I heard one of the dermatologists suggest the following sunscreen clothes:

The clothing is expensive and I will stick with Columbia for now.

Just letting everyone know what a dermatologist suggests.

Don't know about Coumbia shirts and pants but I tried on a Columbia rain suit (Frog Togs too), label said made in Vietnam, I decided I'd rather get wet.

JAMES 14, Look on page 399 of the 2112 BPS catalog. Lower right corner. I have used gloves like these for years A pair last me 2-3 years and I fish alot. They don't hamper fishing at all and they really are comfortable.

X3. I love the long sleeved Columbia tees, combined with a Buff and a pair of very lightweight Columbia cargo pants (nylon, not cotton). The extra coverage keeps me cooler in the sun, and the material helps cool you off since it evaporates better than cotton. I used to be a shorts and short-sleeve shirt guy because I thought long sleeves/pants would make me hotter, but with the new stuff from Columbia (and others), I've found the opposite to be true -- much cooler when I cover up and keep the sun off my bare skin. Plus, it will hopefully keep me from visiting the dermatologist so often.

As a plus, you can wet the Buff with your water bottle and it feels so good and cool on your head/neck that you'll forget it's 100 degrees outside. I cannot over stress how awesome the Buff is. Probably the best piece of fishing clothing that I own.

Under Armour heat gear is the best BY FAR. They protect from UV rays and keep you cool, even when it gets really humid. They also make the sleeves a little longer to cover the tops of your hands; very nice feature.

I'll usually wear these Columbia Tamiami shirts, either short or long-sleeve, with lightweight shorts or mesh jogging pants.

I prefer to have dedicated fishing clothes rather than fish in street clothes. They're gonna get dirty, faded, and stained regardless.
