VABassin'14 Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I have never tried lizard fishing. I just bought a set of baits that includes 8 six inch lizards in watermelon red. How do you rig them, when do you use them, ect. I am completely clueless on this subject so please help me out. Here is the link to the lures if anyone is interested. http://www.lunkerville.com/submitvideo.html Quote
topwater.va Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I have texas rigged lizards. I throw them in spring when the bass are on their beds because bass see lizards as a big threat to their eggs. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 My favorite plastic! I love using Zoom 4" Lizards in creeks. Texas rigged. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 31, 2009 Super User Posted December 31, 2009 Texas Rigged or Carolina Rigged Quote
looking4structure Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Quote Texas Rigged or Carolina Rigged;) x2 I like em in the spring time fished over beds. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 31, 2009 Super User Posted December 31, 2009 Lizards work year around. Just another plastic with a different "profile" and "action". I have been fishing GYCB Laminated Lizards for years, but I'm throwing Rage Tail in 2010. 8-) Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I have the best luck using a floating lizard on a California rig. T-rig with a pegged weight for bed fishing. Quote

Super User Hammer 4 Posted December 31, 2009 Super User Posted December 31, 2009 Same as above, I also flyline them...I like the Ragetail lizards...great action for swimimg them over weeds and grass.. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 31, 2009 Super User Posted December 31, 2009 Quote Texas Rigged or Carolina Rigged Yep, and 8-12" works great in this area. Quote
BUCKEYEone Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Lizards are second only to senkos (trick sticks) for me. I use them from ice melt to fall, usually Texas or Carolina rig. Rage Tail is the brand of choice for me Quote
yamisoez Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Been using texas rigged lizards and craws for years. My go to lures. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I love using Lizards... especially at one of my home lakes.. if the bite gets tough.. i'm almost guaranteed to start catching fish with one... I like to texas rig them with a very light tungsten weight (1/16 or 1/18 oz).. YUM Lizards... I like either Green Pumpkin with purple flakes.. or Black with red flakes.. Quote
VABassin'14 Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 What do you look for specifically when you are throwing a lizard? Is there one type of structure better than another, or a depth that works the best? Quote
kikstand454 Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 not really... i mean.... ive caught fish 15 feet down on a c-rig lizard. theyre a great bait and truthfully a "realistic" prey for bass in the sense of salamanders and lizards. Quote

But, I like to throw them around fallen/submerged trees. Quote

Kingbass43 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Lizards are one of my favorite lures to use! there similar to worms u can t rig them go unweighted what ever you wanna do with it really (thats one of the best parts of fishing you can experiment with anything you want i usually throw them around fallen trees brush lily pads ive even thrown them in the middle of a small pond and caught some nice sized fish on them! http://www.bassresource.com/fishing-forum/Templates/Forum/default/cheesy.gifhttp://www.bassresource.com/fishing-forum/Templates/Forum/default/cheesy.gif Quote
Big-O Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Quote What do you look for specifically when you are throwing a lizard? Is there one type of structure better than another, or a depth that works the best? Anywhere and anytime with lightweight Tx or C rig. 6" and under. Also weightless or on a light keel weighted hook with spinning tackle in shallow grass. Lizards are a terrific go to bait when the bites tough. My advice is keep it slow and keep it on the bottom. I think the fish get so mad at'em, they just can't help but hit it If you fish'em a little, I think you'll like'em alot Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Casca Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 fish them anywhere you'd fish a worm. regards, Casca Quote
A-Rob Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I'm gonna c-rig a 4" and 6" lizard for some smallies this year, it better work!!! Quote
Super User CWB Posted January 6, 2010 Super User Posted January 6, 2010 Can't figure why but when most people think Lizards, they think spring or C-rigged. Like others said, different profile bait and will work anytime and just about anywhere. I T-rig a Rage Tail Lizard with 1/8 - 3/16 oz. weight and fish it through shallow grass. The Rage Lizard is the only one I know of where the legs actually swim on the retrieve. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted January 6, 2010 Super User Posted January 6, 2010 Yup, I think if you compare the action of the ragetail lizard, you'd be hard pressed to go with anyother.. Quote
knap Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 fish the salamander anywhere you can catch the bass in cover or just among the bank it all depends when YOU want to fish. my favorite color is watermellon seed! great bait Quote
RyneB Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Zoom lizards are by far my #1 producing bait. I have been in the back of the boat with the person in the front throwing a rage lizard and gambler lizards, and never once has that person outfished my Zooms. I have caught a muskie,a few northern, countless largemouth, and a few smallmouth on a zoom lizard. Quote
