The only little bass lake I know of.where I can launch my inflatable raft just turned out to be dangerous

I was in the middle of the lake and started to hear gun shots of.high powered rifles, next thing you know a bullet hit the water 10 feet away from me, plus I had my 7 yr old son with me. I heard there is a shooting range for the cops near there but I don't understand.... thank god we didn't get hit...now I need to look elsewhere for something close with bass and where I can launch, never going to billo again...

wow thats messed up it should be clearly marked are you sure it was the police range shooting you would think they would have it blocked off

I'm not sure if it's a police range... I heard shooting before around there but these got to be high powered rifles..

I would visit the local police department to voice your concern, my bet it wasnt them but some irresponsible gun handlers. Even in the army, we have spotters at our ranges watching for anyone wandering on the ranges or even large game even with all of the control measures. Very important especially when firing our M240B's and .50Cal's. I would think the police would do the same if people fish the lake. Any range is also supposed to have berms to stop any rounds and if the police use the range, i would think they have have this among other control measures.

Yeah but animals are stupid on military installations and the whole everyone's a safety thing doesn't always work or get relayed fast enough I watched a doe threw a PAS that was bedded behind a berm stand up into a burst from a 240 it was sweet not to mention countless turkeys that like to wander onto the range. With the berm thing said think about all them tracers you see ricochet a few with every burst some times and them are just the tracers you can see think of all the ball ammo that gets sent off in all directions. It could have been a ricochet that hit the water. I would still check with the PD in the area though and inform them of the situation.
