riskkid 2 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 While fishing a tounament this weekend my boat partner caught a fish that was bleeding. He pulled out a can of coke and poured some down the fishes mouth. He told me it's an old trick to stop the bleeding, it seemed to work. Anyone heard of this or tried it before? Quote
Super User grimlin Posted June 17, 2012 Super User Posted June 17, 2012 yeah heard of this before. But with sprite instead of coke. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 17, 2012 Super User Posted June 17, 2012 The next time you have a bleeding fish, hold it over the water and watch what happens. It clots instantly upon hitting the water. Maybe Sprite or whatever causes the blood to clot faster, I don't know. But it surely won't clot as long as it's out of the water unless you do something. 1 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 18, 2012 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 18, 2012 No, no...no. Don't do that. It's an old wive's tale. It's what Tom alluded to - liquid causes a fish's blood to clot. Sorry, but Sprite, Coke, Mountain Dew, etc. do not contain magic elixirs that miraculously stop bleeding. The fact that they're not for consumption by animals leads me to believe they're more harmful than good. Instead, place the bleeding fish in the livewell and add "Please Release Me" formula. It not only stops bleeding, but provides vital medicine that gives the fish a better chance of survival. 1 Quote

Honestly I never tried it,matter of fact I heard it on here a long while back. Quote

riskkid 2 Posted June 18, 2012 Author Posted June 18, 2012 Well, it didn't sound quite right to me but it did stop the bleeding. I kind of thought if Polar Bears could drink it, it would be OK. The poor fish did look thirsty and seemed to enjoy the Coke, I bet he would have enjoyed a bit of rum with it too. On a serious note....the fish weighed in just fine with no bleeding as he went straight to the livewell and my partner used Rejuvinate (it was a Bassmaster Weekend Series and they push Rejuvinate). evrgladesbasser Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Coke if for mixing drinks, and nothing else that I know of Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted June 18, 2012 Super User Posted June 18, 2012 The only thing coke will do is give it a sugar high and cause it to swim circles in the baitwell, lol. 1 Quote
