I suggest being patient and pick off a couple when they pop up in our Flea Market.

St. Croix Avids are great rods and although the MSRP is ~$185, they are often priced

at $100-$125 "gently used".

Go used or if u want new get a carbonlite or veritas. I also fish tournaments with a guy who has a quantum smoke he really likes...I think the carbonlite feels every it as good as it and way cheaper.

Spinning or casting? What length do you prefer? Asking about rods is ok but you are a little too vague, give some specifics.

Don't forget the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's rods. For the money, they are very good and have a strong warrenty.

As the guys said above, if you can wait for one of the high end brands to show up on our Flea Market you can get a good deal.

If you want to take a chance, you can go to ebay but you really don't know what you wll get, although the Kistler I bought off ebay is a beautiful rod and I got it half price.

You need to take a look at the Denali Jadewood series. They are $100 rods that fish and look like rods that are much more expensive. This line is a huge seller for Denali. There are rods in this series for just about any application you would need.

The Bucoo is suppose to be a good rod. It is in your price range, and you might be able to handle them at your local Walmart. I haven't used one, but stopped by mine to fondle a few. :eyebrows:

Actually the closest Walmart to me carries crap, but another a bit further away carries some nicer gear. Earlier this year I picked up a Daiwa Jupiter (made for Walmart) while visiting Florida. Only got to use it one day before heading back, but liked it the little I got to use it. Even caught a couple fish with it. :) Liked it well enough that I probably will pick up one to use locally. Unfortunately it is below your price point at $69.96.

Quite a few of my rods were bought used or on closeout. I prefer this to paying full price for new since my pocket isn't very deep.

I keep hearing about those Jadewoods. May have to give one of them a shot as well. Might even be able to afford a new one. :) :)

EDIT: I've been told Cabela's Prodigy is a very nice stick for the money. The gentleman who told me has mucho gear, and can afford anything he wants. Let's see..........any money left in my account? LOL

I seen some very good reviews about the Pinnacle Perfecta rods from you previously. I believe they are one of the best rods out there for the money. My Glx's and my Perfecta rods are my most used. I would like to know if you have changed your opinion of the Perfecta, because I thought your review was dead on. Jim

No, I am VERY impressed with the Perfecta matched up with the Optimus XLT.

However, the rig wis not in the OP's price range and I have never seen the rod

or reel offered "gently used".
