shaun_reid Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I just purchased my first lews reel which was the $99 speed spool the other day. After reading some very good reviews on the whole lews line I figured I would give this one a shot. So far I have been blown away by it, for it being towards the bottom of their line of reels. Paired it up with my 7 ft st croix mojo bass rod and I can cast the thing a mile. I believe I will be getting the tournament pro in the near future. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 17, 2012 Super User Posted June 17, 2012 Congrats on your purchase! I believe that the 99 dollar speed spool is the best casting reel made in the 100 to 120 price range. My friend got one for his son and like it so much he sold hit tourney pro and got 3 more speed spools. Quote

JaxBasser Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I recently purchased the Speed Spool Tournament and I love it. Quote
shaun_reid Posted June 18, 2012 Author Posted June 18, 2012 Does anybody else have experience with the MG or tournament speed spool? I was messing around with both of them at cabelas today and liked their feel. Don't have the money for the TP and there are MG's and tourney speed spools on ebay for good prices. Quote
steelslinger86 Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 I have two, and I know what my next reel purchase will be, no need to look at any others. Quote

I would not get the tournament MG, as it has Magnetic only cast control, the Tournament, Tournament Pro, and team, all use both Magnetic and Centrifugal cast control. The Tournament Pro I believe is the best bang for the buck, street price around $150.00. All are excellent, I just love them!! Quote
JunkYard814 Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 I just bought the Tourament Speed Spool a couple weeks ago and I'm in love with it. Quote
MarkM Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 I just bought the Tourament Speed Spool a couple weeks ago and I'm in love with it. From first feel and looks, I agree. I plan to put mine through its paces this weekend. I haven't sampled the Tournament Pro, but there really are only minor (IMO) differences between the Tournament and Tournament Pro. The TP uses one extra bearing and a carbon fiber handle. Both reels have magnetic and centrifugal cast controls, >10+1 bearings, a clicking star drag and spool control knob, and 14lbs drag. For <$120 on ebay, the tournament is an excellent value; the TP is about $30 more. I also like the gloss black looks of the Tournament better than the flat black of the TP. Quote

The fact that it was $40 less and had that sleek black look were pretty much icing on the cake for me. Quote
