Hey there my fellow anglers! As I peruse this sight and read about all the different types of baits everybody uses, it makes me wonder. Now don't get me wrong, I love it, being able to buy some new goodies for the tackle box everytime the wife decides its time to go to Walmart. But here's what I was wondering, does anybody just use the good ol $2.00 a dozen can of worms? Until recently that is all I fished. Now I mostly use artificial but I will use worms on one pole usually and artificial on my others....

What say you BR?

Always have them with me. Toss them weightless work extremely well sight targeting bass/cats from shore.

Ive tried many many local places and Walmart consistantly has the nicest worms.

I find they don't last long enough for the bass to get a shot at them! Mostly gobbled up by bluegill.

Unfortunately that's the problem. One of the main reasons why I do not use them often. Unless I'm actually targeting bluegills.

Live crayfish do a nice job of bringing in some good size bass as well. That's usually my preferred live bait choice now for bass.

I use them for catfish or walleye occasionally. I catch my own a couple nights before, they're about $2.50-3 a dozen around here it seems which is way too much to spend to potentially just feed a bunch of bluegill or drum.

Fishing for trout I used to use worms but never bass fishing. To me bass fishing is more than just catching the fish, it is the entire act of angling, from the choosing of which lure to use to making the perfect cast and then presenting that lure in a way the fools the fish into biting. That is what it is for me and by using live bait it takes an element away and it leaves me feeling unsatisfied I guess but I really do get a better sense of accomplishment using lures instead of live bait.

A big nightcrawler Texas rigged and pitched to cover is DEADLY. Better than any creature bait if you can keep the panfish off

only the worm bait, when i am fishing for bait, super small hooks, quick gills, lead to big catfish on cutbait, we have to many gills for a bass or anything else to get it..

hell, i swear i have seen turtles follow my line down, i get a tug, reel in and my worms gone, condition science to the max ;)

The worms at the store are small and I'll only use them for panfish. But lift up some hay bails and find the big 10" long worms that almost look like snakes more than worms and the bass LOVE them. I hear blue gill make a great live bait too but I'm not ambitious enough to have to catch one fish to catch another one lol.

Using a bigger hook size should keep the panfish from biting it.

When I take kids fishing I always have a container of Wal-Mart $3 Nightcrawlers with me.

Kids' attention spans are short and if there is no action they get bored very fast.

The problem with live bait is that other species will hit it and drive you crazy.

But that is fishing.
