your 5 yr old out fishes you? LOL nah I am pretty proud of him today, he had 4 strikes and 2 lands, the lands came on this little BPS crank he got last weekend, and two misses where on a Strike king KVD finesse worm in money green, he was doing his own shakey head, around some culverts in the pond, one miss was a nice one probably 15 inches or so, just couldn't set the hook on em. I got one strike myself on a bass colored fluke. We hit the water about 6:30 and out of there about 7:30, he was a few minutes late to school, but well worth it.

Nice pic man I can not wait til my son is old enough to go fishing with me! I have 10 more days til my girl gives birth and then i got about a few years til he can go fishing with me lol.

My girlfriend has been out fishing me the last 5 times we went out. I bought a new reel and gave her my old one and I caught 1 fish, smaller than the one your son caught. My girl on the other hand was landing 2 to 3 lb# left and right, I guess my old reel was the fish catcher not me which I use to think lol

Hoping to take my 4 year old daughter out soon, any tips?

Taking a young child out can be a daunting task, you can keep her intrest by using live bait, that would be the best starting point.

My youngest had got bitten by the bug on her first big fish, a 5 lb striper, since then she has been by my side for every fishing trip doing the homework and packing the tackle and cleaning the reels.

She now has as much or more knowlage about a body of water we visit as I do and challanges me to be better than she is, it goes by in a hurry man, enjoy it !!

Have fun and be safe !!!

Thanks Nitro, I've taken her out with me a few times without actually giving her a hook ( she cast her princess float) and told her when she stopped hitting me with the float we would upgrade to hooks. Looks like its time. Hopefully she will get the bug cause I need a fishing partner.

Just keep it interesting, catching fish any size keeps them interested or tadpoles, bugs etc. I have been guilty of trying to catch bigger fish and getting skunked with them, u know u wanna wow them, but they don't care. For blue gills or sunfish I use pieces of worms or Berkeley crappie nibbles. If we try for bass like today he uses tiny cranks, poppers, swim baits and grubs. He only recently started to recently use worms and he really does what he wants, when I said his version of shakey head,I meant it, he had that thing rocking but it got bit. He uses a small spinning reel, on a 5' zebco rod. Patients helps too there will be tangles. Oh one of the biggest things is use a snap, I never used a snap at first but now I do, doesn't make a difference fish will bite, he had one on today. It makes lure changes easy.

I can agree with nitro, once they get bit they can learn more than u. He watches fishing shows, reads bass magazine. I let him pick his own lures but will make suggestions on why it will or will not work. They are sponges they will soak up the knowledge.

Lol you are absolutely right! I am being out numbered 2 to 1. 2 fishers usually beat 1.
