i recently saw a video by Kevin VanDam using trailer hooks on his spinnerbaits. I tried it out yesterday and caught 3 decent bass 2 of them only hooked by the trailer hook. Anyone else use them for your spinnerbaits?

Always use them. many times the bass crash the blades, and without the trailer, you miss the fish. You'll know they crashed the blades because they'll be hooked in the chin:

I feel that if you know using a trailer hook might land you a percentage of bass that would have been "short strikers" and you don't use it, is silly. When I get a bass on the trailer hook I try to work out why. I start to change retrieve, color, blades and size till I get solid takers.

All the time.

Same for Chatterbaits and buzzbaits.

Have used trailer hooks on frogs but they destroy the action and sink the critter.

I never use one, I use a hook with an extral long shank but the reason I don't use a trailer hook is I throw my spinnerbaits in places that the trailer hook would make the bait to snaggy. I tried it and in open water it is something that you almost need to do in order to catch fish consistantly.

I don't buy 'em if they don't have them now.

The older one's I have I put it on.

I learned the hard way. Lost too many fish over a 2 day tourn and lost money.
