Miller's Ferry 8 Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I fish in two different spots almost everytime I go fishing. Either its the river near my home or a lake thats formed by a river like most of Alabama's big lakes. Both of these have something in common though. They both have large bridges. One even has two bridges. Now looking at them I know by common sense that fish must be around them because its no different from cover or structure. But I just don't know how to approach it as far as how to fish it and what to fish with. How would you fish it? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 14, 2012 Super User Posted June 14, 2012 More important than the bridge itself to me is the point that is sometimes formed from the abutment. For instance, the north side has a point and a steep drop off that sometimes holds fish: https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=43.212222,-77.530432&spn=0.005794,0.009645&t=h&z=17 Quote
Cjfulk Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 if a column is in the water then I generally take a drop shop rig with a 4-5 inch worm and drop it down around the column. if there are rocks around the bridge then I take a crank and throw it against the rocks and run it into the rocks on the bottom. all the noise generally attracts fish. Super User Jig Man Posted June 15, 2012 Super User Posted June 15, 2012 I like to fish piers when I go past a bridge. I normally start with a white buzz if they will hit it. If not, I try a white or chart. spinnerbait or a white/chart. 3/8 to 1/2 oz swim jig. When I use the swim jig I do a count down then swim. Sometimes it takes a count of 10 to get down to where the keepers are holding. Most of the time the fish are on the shady side. Quote
RobertBG Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 man I've got a lot to learn,I'd just keep fishing different stuff till I catch something.................then hone in on why i did.In order to catch more and bigger fish.I guess this is why I have a few bad days befor the good ones. Quote
