here's a problem i face...1. i have yet to get my cc which i do intend on obtaining one the next class in a couple of months. 2. i grew up on millwood lake but as time went by there has been an increase in alligators. there's a pic of one in my album, they let people carry shotguns duck hunting, but they don't allow firearms on the lake otherwise. it's ok to go fishing and be attacked by a dinosaur, but to defend human life is a crime. i know, it's not a good idea to allow handguns on a lake, but it's a shame that a law abiding fisherman can't carry one for his own protection against nature when it can and does get violent. if they wont let us defend ourselves i wish they'd get the darn things out of the lake! if i had my cc i'd probably take it anyway. being in jail can't be a lot worse than mutilated by an alligator.

I CARRY MY GUN EVERYWHERE!

That being said, I live in Memphis, and work in a liquor store! I took my carry permit before even turning 21, and had my permit and my gun the day I turned 21. I do carry concealed, always!

That's what I like to hear.

I don't carry everywhere, but always do while fishing, and it has nothing to do with ego or fear.

Like slonezp, I live in Illinois where it is not legal to carry a loaded weapon in a vehicle or boat. With that said, if I'm fishing with my wife at night on any public lake, it would be a mistake to assume I am not armed. This is not because I live in fear. If I have my wife along on a remote rural lake, esp at night, I will not put her at risk. I have had a couple of situations in the past that have brought me to this decision. I have been told by some that if there is that sort of risk to find another lake. The places I fish are in as low a crime area as one will find anywhere, but there are always some who will look to pray on an easy target. I refuse to be that guy.

I have sold off a lot of my stuff to upgrade other guns since the last post like this. I currently carry two Glock 17s with 30rd mags while fishing. I also bring the 100rd drum on the boat too. If 60 don't do the trick, then a hundred more little friends will. I believe very heavily in the old adage, "Death through superior fire power."

However when I m out and about the 17s get their regular clips. Those thirtys don't conceal very well.

Holly crap, where do you fish, the river in Baghdad? LOL....... But seriously, I don't think I want to fish around you.

I'm just eccentric like that. Really aside from the firing range I have no where else I can carry them. So I figured why not just bring them on the boat. The lakes I fish on are pretty low crime aside from around the boat docks on one of them. Even on that one it is only 8 or 9 of the secluded docks that are bad.

Raider a problem I see with you carrying that many rounds is should you have to use a weapon, it will look to many that you were looking for a fight. My other concern is that even if you are attacked by multiple bad guys, you are still accountable for every round you fire. Even if you put 50% of your rounds on target (a very high percentage in a firefight) the odds of hitting something not intended go up quickly with each shot fired. If 18 rounds in two pistols is not enough to end hostilities you need an air strike, not more ammo.

LOL,LOL,LOL,,,, Ya, that's why I wouldn't want to be around when the s**t hits the fan. There's not much out on the water to stop stray rounds.

This is really a useless subject to continue, I think I'll have some fun and go "be nice to" my wife.

This is Arizona. We wear 'em to church.

Oh, Raider Nation :) They are magazines, not "clips".

Even if I did not live in IL, I feel no need to walk around armed. They stay at home by law, and by choice (range and hunting excluded). I certainly respect others choices however.

with stuff like what just happened in Colorado I'd carry every where I could. Look at area's with few gun restrictions low crime because you never know who's packing. Then you have all these cities and states with tight gun laws not letting you carry and they have the highest crime rates in the country because the bad guys know no ones packing and its easy pray.

And raider if your ever in a fire fight on the water where u need that much ammo or use that much everyone involved would need some range and shooting fundamentals time holy crap your 50 rounds shy of a full combat load for a rifleman in Afghanistan or Iraq.

I like my 6 shooters and gold triggered over unders......................I feel they offer enough for my families protection if the need arises for the time being.Although I'm looking to relocate to a concealed carry state. As far as guns on the boat go,my boat is not a bass boat but it does have a legal long arm within reach at all times, and trust me it doesnt take long to drop a few shells if need be ;)

I live in IL. Only the criminals are allowed to carry.

I'm with you. I hate this state. If my entire family, friends weren't here I'd be gone without question. The only thing I like about IL is the city of Chicago (downtown) and its history. The rest of this stink hole can rot.

From a person that has been robbed at gunpoint I can tell you the chances of a perp announcing their intentions is remote. They come out of the shadows gun in hand and be on you so fast, you can do nothing but pee in your pants, pretty much what most are going to do. Not only are they taking your money and other valuables, they're gonna take your gun too, maybe even use it on you.

Two words - situational awareness.

Many people unknowingly put themselves in a situation to be robbed, beaten, raped, or worse because they're completely oblivious to what is going on around them. The time to handle the situation is long before the perp's gun is in your face.

As a one time world traveler, I was trained in situational awareness by my employer. It saved my but in many third world countries where westerners stand out as easy targets. Maintaining an active daily awareness of your surroundings is important to your safety wherever you are.

I was thinking the same thing along with "do not look like easy prey". Walk tall and aware. That will save you from situations you never knew would have happened.

Bingo. Criminals are predators, and as such, they'll single out the old, the weak, the sickly, and the distracted to prey on. If you give the impression that you're someone not to be messed with, they'll generally look for easier prey. They don't want to be shot /stabbed/beaten any more than you do.
