Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 13, 2012 Global Moderator Posted June 13, 2012 I have had 2 now, I really like the reel a lot, but twice now I've set the hook and heard a terrible grinding noise when I tried to reel I couldn't hardly reel the fish in. I know I'm grinding the teeth off of a gear and have no idea why this is happening with this reel. I don't want to give up on these reels because I love the feel of them but I don't want to have to keep returning them for new ones. Any feedback would be great before I take this one back. If it's a frequent problem I guess I'll try something else but hopefully I just got a couple bad ones. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 13, 2012 Super User Posted June 13, 2012 never had a problem with mine. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 13, 2012 Super User Posted June 13, 2012 I use the standard supreme not the xt, I have 3 of them. I used my 35 in saltwater for snook for nearly 2 years without a problem, If you are I'd return it. Quote
northern basser Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 I haven't had a problem with mine, but I have the 25 size for trout and pan fishing. It doesn't get stressed too much. Quote
SmokeRise1 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 I had one and had nothing but problems with it. Line twists every time out and line getting caught on the little line keeper or something else during casts that would snap the mono and send the lure flying into the trees. (I know that sounds stupid, but I read on another post someone else had this issue). I replaced mine with a Symetre and couldn't be happier. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 I haven't had any problems with mine either at this point. Quote

outdoorsman110 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Use mine all the time with fall rockfish and summer bass. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted June 14, 2012 Super User Posted June 14, 2012 just traded in a stradic ci-4 1000 for the new patriarch mg 9530. it is the smoothest (spinning reel) i've ever used. hope you find a good one. this is the first pfleuger i've owned(all reels are shimano) and it's a winner. I was a Shimano diehard myself and almost bought the C14 but wasn't impressed at all after handling one in store, that's what lead me to the Pfluegar. It was way smoother and quieter than the Shimano. I'm thinking I may have just gotten a couple bad ones, sounds like nobody else has had the problem I'm describing. I guess I'll trade it in for a new one and hope that I don't have any more problems. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 14, 2012 Super User Posted June 14, 2012 I've checked out the c-14 a few times, the handle was an instant turn off, I'm not questioning the performance of the reel. Most of my spinning reels are 4000 size and up and not used for bass fishing, One day I was fiddling around with my Abu Sorons and I discovered the handle from the Soron 4000 fit perfectly on my Soron 2000. That was love at first sight, I ordered a 4000 handle for my 2000 and this reel went from a good reel to a great one, maybe my favorite of all them. I mostly use the reel for light saltwater but every now and then I'll use it for bass, I give it very high accolades. Quote
