Fish don't know what reel you have but they know if the bait is moving fast enough, or any other movement is right based on how you are able to handle it on your end. I just think its a fact, spinning and casting gear is better designed and once learned to be used properly will outperform spin cast gear. If they designed it better, like the new Extreme, then it might be different, but mostly it isn't.

I think all of the media and hype behind competitive bass fishing today has created the monster that causes anglers to worry more about how they look and what others think about them than actually the fishing tradition.

Yes i had rather use a baitcaster or spinning reel, but not a day goes by that atleast 1 zebco 33 isnt in my boat. They are extemely versatile reels. I can throw a 1/32 oz jig for crappie and a 3/8 oz texas rigged worm all with the same setup. The zebcos are tanks and their ease of use saves not only time, but headaches too, like those caused when u bird nest that $300 revo freshly spooled with 65lb power pro braid. I can skip under docks with a 33 much easier than a baitcaster and throw the bait a mile, even into the wind. So say what you want, the zebco will always be a part of my arsenal whether a young kid is in my boat, or KVD himself. I will throw that "old school," "beginner rig" with pride!

Spin cast have one advantage over all other reels... Ease of use. That's it . You can cast farther and more accurately with a spinning reels or a baitcaster if you are willing to spend the time to learn them. The right equipment in the hands of an experienced angler is a deadly thing. If you are looking to just have fun and be on the water then spin casters are great and absolutely nothing wrong with using them. But if you want to improve as a angler , you need to learn to use the better designed equipment. You will not see any angler, regardless of talent , win any tournament or improve his skills if he is not willing to learn or use the better designed equipment. I don't care how good KVD is , he cannot win on the elites series with a spin cast reel and a flasher , riding around in a trihull. . It's all about what you want from the sport.

Spin casting reels are extremely easy to use. If you're bringing someone out with you who fishes about once every 5 years, then they're a decent option. Personally, I wouldn't bother keeping one for those rare occasions, unless I was hosting small children. I've seen people learn to use spinning tackle in a couple minutes well enough to begin catching fish.

i think the notion that spincasting gear is for beginners is ludicrous. i have a shakespeare tiger spincaster that refuses to quit, it casts great and i havent seen a technique i couldnt use it for. ive caught multiple species on it from panfish, catfish, bass, and stripers. i love my spinning gear and the couple baitcasters i have, but most of my pb's come on the lucky spincasting rod and reel. for a $20 combo i expected it to be broke years ago, but nope, its still going strong. the drag is a bit weak, but its only a factor on larger fish. certain reels may have their place based on surroundings and cover you may be fishing, but for the most part a spincaster can do anything and everything a spinning reel and baitcaster can do...

All i see is that they're great for youngsters and folk that don't fish much. And for these people, simplicity and ease of use is a great reason for them to use one. Or anyone else for that matter. My beef was the price- under $35 for decades. I'm sorry - but you have to leave your spincaster in my truck....(just kidding)
