Grass Master Jigs For Punching?

Did I just waste money on these jigs? I bought what I think our jigs for punching 1oz grassmaster jig from TW. I wanted something to fish the heavy grass and muck here with minimal slop coming back up. Does anybody have any experience with these or could you recomend something that is proven if these will not work? I have not tried them yet I just have a tourney here within a week and I am in the process rebuilding my tackle as it was all stolen last week. So please recomend some good stuff for punching.

I have them and love them iv tried them a few times for punching but threw lilly pads I caught alot of northern pike but that's all I caught that day every where no mater what I threw. They come back clean depending on knot and line iv noticed braid seems to always come back clean with a palomar knot flouro though seems to grab a tiny bit nothing major.

Shew I am relieved thanks I am going to order some north star jigs to I just dont think they will get here in time. I was just wondering if they infact came back clean or somewhat. I will be using a core50 with a shimano camara 7ft4 heavy rod with power pro 50lb first 20ft colored dark green. I hope this new setup will work. and of course with a rage crawl trailer..

pretty much the same as i throw minus the rod and reel i use a revo sx and veritas 7'6MH PP#50 rage craw or space monkey for a trailer. also try a stanley ribbit for a trailer iv had amazing results with that as well

My favorite jig of all time. Very versatle. I cast/pitch with them and like clayton have used them to drop into the pads with sucess. They are the best jig Ive found to cast into hydrilla and retrieve horizontally.

Never truly "punched" with them FWIW. A more streamlined jig may be a bit better, but Ill defer to those who've tried them in that app.

anytime im punchin i have my dobyns champion 805c with an ardent f700 flip/pitch, 50lb sunline fx2 or 50lb power pro, bobber stop, 1-1.5oz tungsten weight, paycheck baits punch skirt, and a 4/0 paycheck baits punnch hook with whatever soft plastic bait i prefer on that day. always comes through clean and always catches fish

For punchin I use a bobber stop, 1oz. tungsten weight, paycheck punch skirt, gamakatsu heavy flippin hook 5/0, and either a havoc craw fatty or pit boss on 65 lb sufix 832. Comes back clean every single time and it's really streamlined use a snell knot and it will kick your hook out to the side for good hooksets.

I think you will be happy with the Grassmaster jig. Any jig is going to pick up some junk but this one comes out cleaner then any I have used before. All Terrain makes same dang good jigs IMO.

I have been wrecking fish on them using it as a swim jig. I don't know what it is about jigs marketed as "Swim Jigs" but I just don't like them. The grass masters come with rattles and have the horizontal line tie that's like recessed inside the head. They come through stuff great for me seem to have a pretty thick skirt and overall feel like a solid jig. I'm not sure the color but black and green/chart whatever it is and then match it with a swimbait trailer in like colors and its game on for me.

Short answer:  Money well spent.

 

 

In addition to 'vertical' mat-punching, a jig should also be able to navigate 'horizontally' through weedbeds. Here in Florida, we deal mostly with shallow weedy lakes, and in Canada we're dealing with cabbage and milfoil. No matter how spiffy the jig, if it can't reach the fish it's useless. 

 

In the 1970s, the only jig I found with a 'nose eyelet' was the Denny Brauer Weed Sneek. It was a swim jig alright, but long before they had a name. When the name 'swim jig' was coined (~2000) every manufacturer got in on the act, which gave the fisherman a bunch of choices. For many years 'Outkast Jigs' were my favorite, eventually moving over to "Dirty Jigs', who have more on their menu. Although both are excellent jigs, in my opinion, the 'All-Terrain Grassmaster' is the new gold standard. When judging a jig for weedless quality, there are 3 important focal points:

1) Nose-Eyelet.................(a line-eye positioned on top of the jighead makes a dreadful weed-trap)
2) Weedguard Angle.......(The All-Terrain Grassmaster approaches a straight line, about 165 deg)
3) Weedguard Tension....(In spite of all else, a soft weedguard drops the ball)

All is very well, in fact Lois and I have reservations for a pike vacation next month.
