KenDammit28 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Anyone used em or seen em? Are they quality. I like the Z bend from Gammy hooks but I don't wanna pay 10.99 for 25 of em when the XPS hooks look essentially the same and are 6 dollars cheaper. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I've tried them and didnt like them at all. I dont like to make negative comments but I ended up throwing them all away. Check stamina tackle for quality bulk hooks you might beable to get them cheaper then bps Quote
Super User 5bass Posted March 5, 2007 Super User Posted March 5, 2007 I use the XPS straight shank round bend hooks and dont have any complaints about them, but they are the only XPS brand hooks that I have used so far. Quote

Shad_Master Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I was fishing with a guy last year in a tournament - he was getting bit, but couldn't get 'em in the boat. I suggested to him that maybe his hook was not sharp, but he dismissed this because they were new BPS hooks (not sure exactly which ones). After about 5 or 6 more missed fish, he finally tied on a Gammy hook and never missed another fish. Just food for thought. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted March 6, 2007 Super User Posted March 6, 2007 I had problems with their EWG worm hooks so now I use Eagle Claws laser sharps from Wal-Mart. Allen Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 6, 2007 Super User Posted March 6, 2007 I used the XPS EWG worm hooks in 2005, after 2-3 fish they become very dull, and bend easy, not to mention the 10% of them that had poorly made eyes or already dull points, I went back to Gamakatsu for 2006 and won't switch again. Say what you want about high end rods, reels, and lures, but IMHO hooks and line should not be an area any one skimps on. In the long run you'll be spending more on hooks if you use the XPS hooks. If I don't get hung up and have to break off and retie, I can fish all day on 1 Gamakatsu. Quote
Rob G. Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I gotta agree with most everyone else. A couple/few years ago I decided to save a few bucks and I tried them. I gave them away. They are not as sharp as other brands and quickly dull after light use. Junk in my opinion. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted March 6, 2007 Super User Posted March 6, 2007 Yes, the quality of the XPS hooks is not very good. I mostly use the owner rig'n hook. Quote
KenDammit28 Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 looks like I'll be sticking to my old faithfuls then, thanks guys...Eagle Claw and Gamakatsu it is. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 6, 2007 Super User Posted March 6, 2007 Seem like there is always a lot of disagreement or opinions whenever we discuss the high end, but an amazing concensus on how we feel about certain products at the low end. Quote

The black came off quickly, exsposing the what looked like aberdeen hook wire like a crappie hook. the point well if there was one didnt last at all would just fold over after a couple fish the eyelet wasnt very nice or always closed IMO, spend a few more bucks and get a better hook. Its one of the most important parts of the setup that is most times skimped on. Quote

I think its good to look into the low end products, though. I just have the idea that maybe someone who's a little strapped for cash may see a review of something in-expensive that is still quality and thus will be able to have a quality fishing experience that they can afford. I'm always looking for the cheapest QUALITY components that I can get as far as hooks and sinkers and that kinda thing goes. The word of the day is....Quality...haha. Eagle Claws aren't really that much more expensive..50 cents more per 25 pack..so I'll just stick with them and a couple packs of gammies. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Ken, check out stamina. Quite reasonable http://www.staminainc.com/hooks/gamakatsu/gamaewgworm.html They have other brands too. This is where I get most of my hooks and other goodies Quote
SBM-RL Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Ive never used any XPS hooks but does BPS produce these or another company bc ive looked at these hooks before and they look alot like gamas but based on what evreyone said there probly not made from them does anyone know who produces these? or any of BPS products? i know browning was bought and makes many products but who else? Quote
justfishin Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 They were ok in a pinch but, they were not consistant. Some were sharp, some were not. Also, some had the eyes that were gaped and caught your line. They are not worth buying again to me. I use Gammys and just bought a some X Points to try. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I've used them for a few years. No issues. Quote
