I'm currently throwing a 7'6 G-Loomis cranking rod, but need (want) another one for deeper diving cranks. I want the rod to be around 7'10 to 8', but no shorter than 7'9. I will be using 10-12lb mono and fishing cranks that run from 10-20 feet deep. The only rod I have experience with other than Loomis is St.Croix, but I don't see where they have a cranking rod over 7'6. I prefer 7'10 or 7'11.

These are the only two rods I could find that fit my needs, other than custom. Does anyone have experience with them? Are there any other brands that fit my needs? Should I go custom made?

Dobyns,

cork-full 804CB 8′ 1pc. 8-17lb, 1/4-1oz, Med/Hvy Mod/Fast Crankbaits $249.99

cork-full 805CB RM 8′ 1pc. 10-20lb, 3/8-1 1/2oz, Med/Hvy Mod/Fast Randy McAbee Signature Crankbait Rod $249.99

Phenix,

XG3-Glass 7'9" 8-17 1/4 - 1 oz. 1 Moderate SiC Fuji Trigger / Cork Split Grip $159

OR should I go custom?

I don't know those rods, but I am VERY pleased with the Lamiglas SR705R.

Duckett makes a 7'11" cranking rod and im very pleased with mine its very light and you can throw a crankbait a mile

If it were me I'd try the Phenix, I don't own one, but keep reading great things, they seem unbeatable for the price.

Bassn Blvd,

I'm in the same boat. What did you end up getting and how do you like it?

I ended up getting the Powell 7'11 m/h glass composite. I have my Calcutta 100 DC with #10 mono on it.

The rod/reel can cast a country mile and is very comfortable to fish with. It's amazing how much easier it is to fish cranks with a long rod. I actually like it better than my 7'6 Loomis,

I don't like where they have the hook keeper. It's located right under the line where it comes of the reel. The treble hook is always getting hooked on the line which could easily cause a nick in the line. My only other complaint is my reel handle is too darn short, haha,.

I stil want to try Dobyn's, Lamaglass and perhaps Loomis' new line-up.
