GLADES Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Sad to hear this news. Those late afternoon T Storms have been intense this week. Very risky to be out in a boat during the storms. Better safe than sorry. Florida leads the US in lightning deaths I believe.. Quote
chobee Posted June 10, 2012 Author Posted June 10, 2012 The boater was from Lake Placid not Miami sorry Quote
BassHunter954 Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 wow! sorry to hear and prayers goes out to his family friends And children yo te vendiga. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 10, 2012 Super User Posted June 10, 2012 Lighting can strike up to five miles from the storm. There can be no warnings of the strike, other than for a tingle and then it is too late. I think we all are guilty of fishing in storms, thinking that standing in a boat and holding a rod in the air with a metal eye on the tip will not attract lightning. So sorry to hear about the loss of a fellow fisherman, especially when it could have been prevented. Quote
gar-tracker Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 I was in town getting some work done on my boat, bolts of lightning where smashing down like mortar shells. This central part of the state is extremely bad. A rancher told me they lose 200 head of cattle a year from lighting. Prayers to his family. Quote

rad07h Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Lorenzo was actually from Miami but must have moved to lake placid over the years. I used to be vice president of the Homestead Hawg Hunters but left the club to go to college 5 years ago. His loss is very saddening news as he was passionate about our sport. RIP Buddy. Quote
Dolphin-Flats-Smitty Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 My respect to him and his family, RIP God Bless All Quote
