DanGoetz Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I picked up a curado last summer, I think it was one of the last 200e7s that they made. It just seems like it wont cast as far as some of my other reels will cast. I have a few other shimanos and they all seem just to out cast this reel in distance wise. Anyone else know anything about this? I have heard of others replacing spool bearings in them, thought about maybe putting some Boca bearings in it. Quote

I am no pro or nothing but did you try cleaning it real good and using a light oil. The reason I say that is my brother has same real it had grease in it we cleaned and degreased it fixed his which is the same problem you describing. Just a thought im sure somebody else here knows more I am no longer a Shimano fan. But they do make fantastic reels though. I just dont care for thier customer service it is something to be desired. My sole opion of course.. Chad Quote
SmokeRise1 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 How many of the brakes do you have turned on? Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted June 7, 2012 Super User Posted June 7, 2012 Check the brakes, only have 2 or 3 engaged at a time. Check the spool tension knob setting. As well as the above mentioned, a good flush of the spool bearings is always a good first mod. Quote
DanGoetz Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 I only have 2 of the brakes set. Im gonna try to clean the grease Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted June 7, 2012 Super User Posted June 7, 2012 Send it to this guy to have it cleaned !!! He can also do the Bocas and drag washer http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/ Quote
21farms Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 my first curado E7 was like that. it casted "okay" and i didn't really give it another thought. then, one trip, i was watching my buddy absolutely bombing his spook with his E7 and i knew something wasn't right. turns out, i had either too much oil and/or grease in my bearings because, after removing the excess factory lubricants, i saw a day and night difference. from the sound of it, i'm positive your E7 has too much grease or oil in it. jj'sbassinforfun Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Another voter for too much grease in the spool bearings. Flush them and add a drop of the proper oil and it should be good to go. If not then Send it to DVT. Let him do the supertuning and you will be amazed. Quote

Save your money, if you know how remove and flush the palming plate, cast control cap, and spool shaft (if there is one behind the engagement pin) bearings. Then one drop of quality oil into each bearing pack and you should see as stated "a night & day differance".If you aren't mechanically inclinde to do so then send it off to Mike (DVT). Tight Lines! WdyCrankbait Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I had DVT poilsh the bearings in my E5 and E7 and I think it is unfair how fair it will cast as well. I would highly suggest that. Mike is awesome and BR forum members get a % off. Good luck! Quote
