Fishing Strip Pits

I'm gonna be fishing a strip pit for the first time this weekend. I'm betting that the water is gonna be clear so I'm thinking of starting with a shakeyhead. Could you guys who have experience fishing strip pits give me some advice? I'm gonna be on my bellyboat so I should be able to cover water quickly considering the pit is not that big.

I bet all the common things will work. I fish a sand pit here, and I catch most of the bass with plastic worms. I especially like the Zoom Trick Worm fished wacky style, on a 1/0 weedless hook. A little before sunset I put on the ole Jitterbug.

Fished some strip mines around here and it was awesome! Super clear water. We got to watch the fish fight all the way back to the boat. We mainly threw frogs at the scum all day cuz we really werent prepared for fishing super deep. Great time. Its my new favorite spot.

Theres 3-4 strip pits around my way that me and my buddy fish constantly. Great population of 2-4 pound bass. Huge gills and Crappie too. We do best on Yum, 5 inch dingers in watermelon or and natural color. Being as the water is super clear natural colors work best. Also do well on jigs, black an blue, green and red, brown. Again, natural colors work best. When fishing ultra clear water the little things matter. Making sure your tag end is cut off, proper bait positioning on the hook, stuff like that makes a difference. Also, big 10-12 inch ribbontail worms are dynamite!

i agree with the swimbait. I have fished a strip pit 2 days a week for about 9 years. My #1 producer is a blue shad shadalicious swimbait. As mentioned above, it has to be natural. I have lost count how many times a big bass has followed my bait all the way to the boat. If there is any vegetation, throw a Strike king caffeine shad in the vegetation. It has been deadly for me lately. The little bait fish are in the weeds and the bass are hammering them. A mattlures bluegill swimbait is a big fish bait that i use. It doesnt always get bit, but when it does, its a beast.

I work at one and try to fish there every afternoon after work....A T-rigged senko works great for me. For some reason I have to fish it slower than other places but has been working great.

Definitely grab your self some 4" yum dingers in water melon color and wacky rig them.I have fished strip pits most of my life and this has been the best consistent producer for me.I also have had luck with some 3" kahlin watermelon grubs rigged on 1/8 jig heads for those times when they want some thing faster moving.
