dtm80527sass Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Whats the best lure for small mouth during the month of june?? i have tried throwing everything from top waters to rubber baits... need advice. Quote
fowlskies Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Try an in-line spinner, smallmouth love them. I always try everything in my box but the best producer is always a Blue Fox spinner, its a great river lure. Quote
Kyle Mahaffey Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I have a small Strike king pond something or another spin bait. They seem to like it. White with somekind of yellow with I think red flake. Also have a small black buzzbait. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 6, 2012 Super User Posted June 6, 2012 There are no "rubber baits", they are soft plastic and depending on your location in the country, smallmouths in June could be just getting on or off of beds or could already be finished the spawn and have gone on to post spawn. But no matter I think you best all around bait would be the tube, it is a smallie killer. Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 6, 2012 Super User Posted June 6, 2012 Are you fishing where the smallies are? My experience is that smallies will take a wide variety of lures and are aggressive fish (but not always). My best guess is that the problems you've been having are not attributable to using the wrong lures. I don't profess to know anything about smallmouth behavior in June, wherever you may be located. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 6, 2012 Global Moderator Posted June 6, 2012 A finesse worm in a natural color on a shakeyhead has caught me smallmouths everywhere I've ever fished for them during all different times of the year. Not always the best choice but usually will get you bit. Quote
Stonedog Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I have always had great luck with an inline spinner....white body and silver blade....especially in lakes and ponds. I am an ultralight kind of guy so I throw 1/16th oz... When wading, my go to is always the ultralight crickhopper in yellow. Quote

logan9209 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I have caught them with a Zara Spook, white Strike King 1/4 oz bleeding bait spinner bait, and a NetBait Salt Lick red bug. All in the morning and at sunset. Oh, I have also caught one using a drop shot ZMan saw tail watermelon red flake. Quote
A-Rob Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 wacky rig 5-6" senko (no or liight weight) Smallies will come a long way to hit it. fish a 1/2 oz spinnerbait in choppy water or low light conditions. Try burning it, then try slow rolling it deeper crank bait in the morning/evening works nice to. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted June 7, 2012 Super User Posted June 7, 2012 Grubs, tubes, shakey head and drop shot worms Those are almost the top choices people here use for smallmouths. Smallmouths move around a lot usually chasing schools of baitfish around here. Something you need to pay attention to as well. Quote
jdw174 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 If they're deep, it's hard to beat the old standby Silver Buddy. Caught more Lake Erie smallies on that bait than I can count. Quote
