Jman59wl3 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Hey everybody, I'm fishin' for largemouth bass in some Florida ponds, what do you guys recommend for topwater lures, I found a "popper" lure and it seems to be working well, what else do you guys recommend (brands, colors, etc) THanks guys Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 5, 2012 Super User Posted June 5, 2012 Other than the popper in blk/chrome, blue/silver or tenn. shad, zoom toads in blk/yllw swirl, or buzz baits in white or green/chart work for me. You will find lots like the zooms, they are a fav of a few around here. Lol 1 Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted June 5, 2012 Super User Posted June 5, 2012 Zara Spook, Chug Bug, Frogs-hollow and plastic. 1 Quote
Jake P Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Rage tail toad and the Cavitron buzzbait are my 2 favorite. The Cavitron is outstanding. If you haven't tried one I would HIGHLY recommend doing so. I haven't bought any other buzzbait in 4 years. Quote

piscicidal Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 A spook, Spro popping frog 75, devils horse, plastic "buzzin" toad (horny toad/JDs/rage, etc), and a pop-R will cover most the bases for you down here. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 5, 2012 Global Moderator Posted June 5, 2012 I'm a big fan of the cavitron also. The Zell pop is my favorite popper by a long shot. I'm starting to like the Spro popping frog more and more too. I doubt you'll find the Cavitron at Bass Pro, we have 2 close by and neither one has ever carried them. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 5, 2012 Super User Posted June 5, 2012 1. Rapala Skitterpop #7 2. Rage Shad 3. Cavitron Buzzbait 4. Zara Spook 5. Spro Bronze eye Quote

Super User MCS Posted June 6, 2012 Super User Posted June 6, 2012 My fav is a big black Jitterbug. That takes some guts to admit on a public forum. Lol Quote
Jake P Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I don't think bps has Cavitron. I have only found them at dicks sporting goods or online. Quote
Michael DiNardo Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Hey, what's wrong with a big, black Jitterbug??? It's my favorite too! What's the deal with these Cavitrons, why are they everyone's favorite? Mike Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 6, 2012 Super User Posted June 6, 2012 Cavitrons are the slowest retrieving single blade buzzbait out there and make a wonderful squeaking noise right out of the box. Quote

Bobby Uhrig Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Look at that fat basstid-- I wasnt talking about the fish--LOL There are many ways to catch bass at night. Big worms -Jigs- spinnerbaits with colorodo blades for more vibration. I try to stay away from trebble (trouble) hooks at night. One wrong move landing it and its a trip to the ER.. Go try different baits to become a more well rounded angler -No pun intended - Experiment and let the fish tell you how they want the baits presented. Sometimes I cant buy a bite on a top water biut throw a worm and ya clean up. Quote
out_doors_guy Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I would have to say for me, in no particular order; Rebel pop-R, Smithwick Devils Horse, Zara Spook, Floating Rapala or Bagleys Bang-o-Lure and over grass or moss a Snagproof frog. Quote
Sherlock 60 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Spro Bronze Eye Frog is my current favorite. Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 6, 2012 Super User Posted June 6, 2012 my lakes get extremely thick with veg so my favorite is the Spro tropical white popper. i've caught so many fish on it thats its hands down my favorite...or the standard tropical white spro jr... I know several ponds near that are extremely thick in veg, I will have to give this a try. thanks. Quote
Gangley Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Buzzbaits, poppers, and frogs. My favorite is a black buzzbait at night and a popper in the morning and evening. For a popper, I prefer the Yellow Magic or the Zel-pop. Both are outstanding. Quote
Jman59wl3 Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 i guess ill go to bass pro and look at the cavitrons and zara spook and the zell pop and any idea how much the cavitrons are at dicks? Quote
